Should I allow algae to grow on rocks in turtle's tank?

I have a new turtle tank - it's been almost 4 weeks now. I clean the filter twice a week, and do a partial water change every day. Last weekend I noticed algae growing on the rocks - there are 2 in the tank. (One is to support the other which is where the turtles bask).

Anyway, is it ok to let the algae grow or should I clean it as soon as it starts to show?

Thanks muchly for your help!

Algae will not harm your turtle, its just that a lot of people don't like it there. Algae is actually HELPFUL as it will consume a little of the waste products in the water. It is the enemy of a lot of fish-keepers who attack it with abandon, but there is nothing unhealthy about it, its just lots of people think its unsightly. If you like it there, just leave it it will do no harm.

There are 2 a threat complications. The tank is only too fertile and there is too a lot mild. For the first, sparkling extra usually and get rid of the unnecessary crap contained in the tank, like decorations, gravel, etc. do no longer be in too a lot of a hurry to sparkling the filters, although. shop the UV lights fixtures yet attempt to scale back decrease back on the seen mild, particularly the pink and the blue.

Algae is not a dangerous thing for turtles, you can clean it and there are many good solution for cleaning it in www.turtleforum.com but it woudnt be a big problem anyway.

  • i have 2 turtles., we alow the algie to grow to a certain extent in their tank, as tht is what they would find in their natural habitat. but obvioucly when it gets too much we clean it.

algie is fine for your turtles, if anything, its better for them to have a little of it in there, its natural to them =)
