Problem with DNS on office network, Windows2k?

I have 4 computers connected to the server and my users are having trouble connecting to Internet hosts. Can anyone suggest any troubleshooting tips i can try, the network admin is on holiday for a month and we can't reach him, help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Update:

I found a list of things to try online, is there one that is more likely to work or should i just do them until it works.

Issue the Winipcfg command from a local workstation.

Try to connect to an Internet host using the Internet Protocol (IP) address instead of the IP host name

Ping the DNS server to see if it is functioning.

Use the traceroute command to test the functionality of the DNS server

If you have the credentials to log into the router/NAT, you can change its DNS settings to point to a different DNS servers, such as the OpenDNS servers, at least for the time being. The IP addresses of those are:

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

Of course, write down the old settings first (if they are not auto or 0.0.0.0) in case you have to change them back.
