I have been with giffgaff since before they launched, inasmuch as I was involved in the website side of things, before the network went live. Giffgaff have good all round coverage, both on 2g and 3g. To say the network never goes down would be an exaggeration, but it is rare to have no coverage whatsoever. The reason it is so cheap is that it does not have call centres or shops to pay for. They sell only airtime, not phones, so there are no costs associated with repairing, replacing and maintaining phones. They have a central office in Beaconsfield, Kent, and the online agents who deal with queries are based in Derry, northern Ireland. Keeping such a small staff helps to keep costs to a minimum, and the savings are passed on to the customers in the form of lower call and text fees, as well as payback to customers for their participation on the giffgaff forum page. It is a model that works well on a small budget.

The service you get with o2 will be the exact same as o2 without call centres and shops etc. So there will be no need to worry about the quality of service.
