question about horse registration?

This is a really really dumb question and I am shocked I don't know this, but..... my horse is registered as a Canadian Trakehner. She is for sale and the buyer requested her papers and registry. You just pay the one time registry on a horse right? You don't have to update it every year? I have some old papers from when I bought the horse with her registry, pedigree, etc... and that's all the buyer will want, correct? (Plus a bill of sale, passport, etc..)

You only need to register a horse once. Once they are registered (usually in their early years) you don't have to do it again or pay 'upkeep' fees. The only time you continually pay is if you yourself has a membership with the association that you must renew annually (or depending on your membership plan).

So bottom line; no, once a horse is registered they are registered, no upkeep fees or re-registration required. If the buyer purchases the horse, the name on the papers will need to be changed so the horse is under the new owners name.
