well now that would mean that the christian in question is "christ-like" and they would share the values of their god. they would be forgiving and accepting of everyone despite differences. traditional values would require them to follow their religious leaders blindly in my opinion. but the true way to live as a christian would be a free thinking individual who follows their religion but their final beliefs would be those that they have determined to be right without anyone forcing it down their throat. they do not lie or steal and they treat everyone with respect and care. they would not care so much about worldly things and would not need to try to "save" people because they know that there is not really a hell because god would never wish eternal pain on anyone. salvation is not even necessary because everyone is the same and they can choose whatever they want for themselves. i am an atheist because i have never met a christian with these values, sorry.

For something like two hundred years of the history of the United States, Christian people used quotes from the Bible as justification for our peculiar institution, human slavery.

This is a strong indication that Christian values are any values that allow people to quote the Bible in order to exercise power over other people.

Christians still quote the Bible about men being allowed to dominate women, as justification for child abuse, as justification for many unethical actions.

They're not the only religion whose adherents manage to find justification, but your question was specific, and so is my answer.

    Have a reasonably reasonable day.

The synoptic gospels have Jesus say the following to a prospective follower (Matthew 19:18-19, Mark 10:19, and Luke 18:20):

"Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

Unfortunately, some would also persecute minorities like gay and lesbian people based on other New Testament scripture such as Paul's epistles: Romans 1:24-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9.

God's laws and God's Word, the Holy Bible. From God, we have received our values. It was shown in Cain and Abel, Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau the difference between good values and bad values. Following the Lord's ways are the correct values to pursue.

Not the nonsense the political right in the US believe.

It’s living life with the fruits of the spirit:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

    Galatians 5:22-23

To Newlyborn: I seriously doubt that you ever were born again in Christ. You sound like you tried to live a fundamental Biblical lifestyle and was all caught up in legalistic stuff. Where was the Holy Spirit in your life at that time?

You have bible knowledge, but no discernment of truth. Twist God's Word all that you wish, your points are utterly false in their claims. Slavery was not endorsed, but rather, if anyone who was a slave became a Christian they were to remain a slave and strive to be the best slave that they could be to their master. Rebellion would only lead to violence and bloodshed. Christ preached against violence. We are to do all that we do as if we are doing it for Christ. You sound like sour grapes in that you became disiilusioned upon discovering that you did not actually have a relationship with Jesus. That was your error.

Even though they all claim to follow the same book... their values are all over the chart. They claim virtue in everything from miserly penny-pinching to giving everything away; from "every life is important" to "Kill them all and let God sort them out".

I don't think moral values can come from a book like this.

pretty much any value or moral that should be common amongst all people, don't kill, steal, lie. pretty much anything in the bible and the ten commandments. Most of them i don't think should have the title christian again because they should just be common among others and most are laws again killing or stealing. They're really just common sense.

Most would claim them to be whatever that individual person perceives their religion to be. It's similar to the many different variations of "family values" that people have projected over the years.

I have no idea, and neither do most christians. Each cult makes up its own rules. Common Sense is not common nor often rational. Be very wary of anyone claiming "It's Common Sense".
