Age Limit for buying fish?

Question

I just went to Petco today to buy a fish, they gave me the fish in the bag. when i was about to pay for it the lady asked my age (16) then she told me that i had to be 18 to buy the fish. The fish was a type of bottom feeder.

Yes their is an age requirement, it is just not always enforced, though it should be. You may be very mature, but a lot of kids buy animals and do terrible thing with them.  Or buy pets they cant take care of, or the parents do not want in the house, then the parents get angry at the pet store...

So?  It's a good thing they have that rule in place; it cuts down on selfish, immature brats buying pets their parents don't even want.  Do you want more animals to die in shelters because parents get rid of them when they catch their kids trying to hide them?  If you're giving these people money, they'd better be doing something that's right for the animals!

In England minors aren't allowed to buy pets without their parents present. So you would have to be 18 to but a pet here unless you had an adult with you.

i bought a male betta from petco and i am only 15, but them again, i go there alot cuz i am obseesed with fish for some reason and all the employees no me and my mom! haha

you have to be 18 period to buy pets at petco... they don't just sell pets to little kids without the parents being there... so bring a parent they will sell it to them lol
