How exactly do you download the latest available version of Android for the HTC Desire S?

I am new to the smart phone world, and I'm really confused.

The latest version of Android for the Desire S is 2.3.5.

Go to your home screen, select the Menu key, then 'Settings'. Then select 'About Phone' and you should see your version of Android there. If it says 2.3.5, you're on the latest version.

The About Phone screen should also have a 'Check for updates' option. If there are no upgrades available, and you're not on Android 2.3.5, it is possible you have a carrier-branded phone, and your carrier has not yet released an upgrade. When they do, your phone will show an alert on the status bar, which you can select for further instructions on upgrading.

The best way to know if you have a carrier branded phone is that it will have your carrier's logo on it or on the startup screen when you switch on your phone.

Most modern Android phones have Over-the-air updates, which mean they check for updates when connected to the Internet and allow you to do so when they are available.
