Car incident, worried other driver may make false claim?

(UK) I was turning right at a T -junction, waved on by a driver waiting to turn right into my road. While | was almost into the lane I wanted another car came up quite fast past on the inside of the cars waiting for me and we almost collided. (I have checked later and can see no marks on my car that were not there already).

The other driver started waving in a threatening manner and tried to get me to stop. As there was no damage and I was concerned about the possibility of violence I refused to do so. He followed me for a distance and then stopped by the side of the road, possibly phoning.

I am concerned that he may try to claim that there is damage. Should I report this incident to the police myself or would this cause more trouble for me?

I would go and report it to the police in exactly the words you have used here. I had a similar thing happen a year or so back and it turned out that the other car was an off duty police man who made a lot of fuss with a host of lies and I was eventually charged with not reporting it but they didn't proceed against me. It is far easier to report it when you are obviously squeaky clean.

The whole scenario sounds a bit dubious.

There are little car kits that you can put together in case of an accident. A first aid kit, a camera, a list of insurance details, pick-up companies and other contact details.

If you have this kit... you can take pictures and contact everyone you need to 'right on the spot'.

There are some dubious drivers around that will take advantage by causing a crash to their advantage.

(I was a passenger driving round some small city streets and had a Chinese pedestrian walk right in front of the car.... we stopped. But round the next corner, another chinese guy rode his bike right infront of the car!!!)

To me they were clearly TRYING to get knocked down... just for a compensation claim!!!!!

I felt a bit sorry for them, as they were clearly willing to get hurt, just to get money.

You should always stop if you have a 'bump' and if you have photos it could help you with an insurance claim.

You are never to take notice of other drivers waving you through, you wait for the road to be clear yourself and drive responsibly and by the rules of the highway code. You are at risk
