birthday cake ideas for 1st birthday?

Hiya my name is jo my baby girls first birthday is coming up yet i cant decide what to make her for her first birthday cake.Would it be a bad idea to let her have some cake on her first birthday or not.I was thinking somthing simple as we will be staying at her grandmothers that weekend i dont want to mess s up her kitchen =p

I was thinking as i have a american food shop in travel distance getting a strawberry cake mixx and a banana cake mix making two different cakes then stacking them along with some fun rainbow iceing

I think the rainbow cake idea is really good, and a marshmallow butter cream sounds delicous! You could also shape the cake like her favourite character in a book or a T.V. programmge. Or you could just do a simple heart or star cake and ice her name on it. Or maybe a smiley face?????? I really like this recipe for butter cream http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/basicbuttericing_73263 and you add anything to it (marshmallows, melted chocolate). When my grandson turn 1 we had cupcakes, both white and chocolate cause some people did not like chocolate..and we use buttercreme frosting with blue food coloring and bought little decorations for the cake at a dollar store..it was great and he sure did make a mess!!! Took Lots of pictures!!..=)

I would do a yellow submarine cake, but that's just me. A good reason to make this cake is that you can have whatever colors, and have it all out and very elaborate, or you could just be very simple. I really hope I helped!

For a 1 year old child it really makes absolutely no difference what you make or buy. Your child won't know the difference so you are doing it for show.
