Why do the British always look down on themselves?

Why do we never shout about our achievements? For such a small island we've had a MASSIVE impact on the world yet we always put ourselves down.

America is our cousin and they (quite rightly) display their achievements with pride. And they totally have the right to.

Why don't we do the same?

i shout about our achievments all the time mate! i even made a youtube video about it, sort of a friendly competition between us and the states, take a look

but to answer your question, i just dont think we are taught to be patriotic in schools like other countries are, in the USA they DRILL it into them but here its almost seen as racist to have pride now

  • We just all have a stiff upper lip.

We're not really bought up to share our achievements with everyone and that's just our culture.

I don't think we look down on ourselves, we appreciate our achievements, it's just that we don't feel the need to tell everyone about them.
