I realise this sounds like a joke but I swear it's not.

I'm not saying I'm religious or not (as I do not want to influence the answers) but I was told this today by a staunch believer. Is it really true?

I don't have much to add beyond the question I've asked. I like Windows but I'm finding it a bit limiting. I use an Android based phone (i.e. Linux) and I really like Linux but I've always held back on installing it as my primary operating system. I love Gmail and I'm worried I'll lose some of the functionalities. Should I stick with Windows or make the move?

Doe's anyone strive for the best anymore or is it all selfish endevours?

My wife and I are going to New York in November (our first visit to the States) and one of the things she really wants to do is visit a proper American diner (the kind you see in movies). I've found some online but wanted some recommendations from those with first hand experience.

When I say "cinema" I mean the physical building and this is more of a hypothetical question.

My friend and I were discussing this today. We're both avid film fans but whilst I enjoy going to the cinema he hates it. He cites the extortionate prices, the (inevitable) annoying people who chat through the film, etc. He is a big fan of streaming movies and is convinced that eventually studios will abandon the cinema and release new movies in this way straight away. He also argues that the advances in home cinema means that traditional cinemas will struggle to keep up and within 20 or so years they'll be an endangered species, that 3D films are just a desperate gimmick to try and keep people coming through the doors and prove what he is saying.

I can kind of see what he's saying but I really hope it's not the case.

What do you think? Agree or disagree (and why)?

Driving is not a right!! There are too many drivers on the road that clearly lack the basic skills and understanding of how to properly control a vehicle. Only recently a news article claimed that 20% of learners get their friends to do the test for them. We also live on a small island with limited road space therefore it would beneficial to limit the amount of new drivers coming onto the roads. Therefore the test should become harder to make sure those who are on the roads are competent; a limit should be set on the amount of times someone can take a test, extra criteria should be added to the test and restrictions should be set for the first two years of driving on the type of car you can own.

The test is already stringent enough and forcing people to use alternative means to travel is only viable if there is a safe, efficient, affordable and reliable public transport system in place (which there isn't). If someone has done their lessons, taken their test and a qualified examiner deems them ready to have a licence then this should be sufficient enough.

What are your thoughts?

Just to settle a pub debate.

I'm not talking about power in terms of military might but rather those countries that have the most influence in terms of culture and standing on the world stage (as of 2012)?

A work colleague was recently telling me how she regularly sends British chocolate over to her daughter in the States. I simply assumed this was because her daughter emigrated there and wanted some stuff you couldn't buy in the US.

I only recently found out that this was actually her daughter in law, herself a born and bred American, but she and her kids prefer British chocolate.

I don't really eat chocolate (plays havoc with my IBS) but the one piece of American choc I've eaten (Reese's Pieces I think it was called) tasted quite nice to me. I've since read some articles online about American chocolate fans/ connoisseurs going to speciality stores specifically to buy British chocolate (Cadburys Diary Milk kept cropping up)

Is UK chocolate preferable to some Americans? And if so, why?

Approximately a year ago when of my lower molars got cracked. In itself it wasn't causing me day to day pain but would occasionally hurt if I bit down on something hard. Saw my dentist and he recommend having a crown fitted (which would have been my first one). So over the course of 3 months I attended four times for root canal prep work to be done.

After my final RC treatment I was due to attend to have the crown fitted but in the intervening period I found I was still occasioanlly getting pain in (what was left) of the tooth, which should not have been possible if the RC had been done fully. He was as puzzled as me as all the information indicated the RC was completed fully. Due to the pain he decided not to fit the crown and to leave the tooth as it was.

Since then I seem to be semi regularly getting infections in the tooth (each seemingly worse than the last). Over this weekend I've been in agonising pain to the point where I've had to take a day off work. Saw the dentist today and he put me on yet another course of antibiotics. I really did not want to lose the tooth and I've made a concerted effort to save it but today I went there wanting to get it pulled. However he was reluctant to do this.

Should I cut my losses insist this happens (as Christmas is coming and knowing my luck I'll probably get an infection over the holiday period). I'm also sick and tired of constantly popping pills and taking ever more powerful pain medication.

The RC work that was done did result in post and core work (where pins and cement was introduced into to gum to support the crown). Is it because of the presence of these that they're reluctant to extract? Or does it not matter?

Sorry for the overload of info but I'm going back on Friday and wanted some ammo to make my case.

I've got an idea for a website and I'm looking for some advice on setting it up.

To give a bit of background - This will be the first site I've ever set up so I'm completely new to this. I'm good with computers but website building and design are totally new territory for me. I initially wanted to build a bespoke site so set about learning how to do this. Unfortunately due to a very busy work and home life I simply have not had the time to teach myself web design from the ground up. A friend recommended I use Dreamweaver which, although is a very good piece of software, still requires time to master (time I regrettably don't have). I also do not have the funds to pay for a bespoke site to be built for me.

Therefore I have (reluctantly) decided to use a hosting service. I was initially looking at Godaddy but the reviews for it have been luke warm and the type of sites you can make using it seem quite limited. Can anyone recommend a good hosting service for a newbie like me?

The site I want to build won't be selling items but I would like to make a little bit of income through advertising on there.

Can anyone advise?

Stick with me here guys and gals. A friend and I were debating this tonight and I think that Dalton is actually one of the best Bonds.

His portrayal is far truer to the Bond Fleming envisioned (what he was derided for then is what Daniel Craig is lauded for now) and he brought a human edge to Bond (making him human rather than some untouchable force of nature).

I'm not saying he's the best but he was far better than Moore and Lazenby (which isn't difficult I admit) but he is on a par with Craig and Connery (who seem to be generally accepted as the best Bonds).

Please someone tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this : )

I'm really not trying to start an argument and this question comes from the view of someone who is not very religious but knows something of it.

If a soldier or police officer kills someone in the line of duty how is that viewed by Christianity? Going further still if someone kills in self defence? Consider that these people might not be Christians themselves but are good people in their own right.

The Bible says "thou shalt not kill" so does that mean a soldier or a cop or Joe Bloggs (done in self defence) who has done this mean their soul is damned?

Again I'm not religious myself nor have I killed someone but it's something I've always wondered about.

To reiterate, this a genuine question and I'm not trying to start an argument.

I'm saying this PURELY out of curiosity. I won't say what I believe or that which I don't, just a thought exercise.

I'm totally stumped!

I've got a 120gb PS3 slim. I have tried everything and I simply cannot get it to detect my USB drive. It's been formatted correctly (FAT32) and I've added folders entitled "VIDEO", "MUSIC", etc.

The thing is I KNOW it's been formatted and set up correctly as I've tried it on two other PS3's and it's worked fine.

Any ideas please? Any help is appreciated.

One of mine is Swansea City. I think they're playing excellent football and have brought a breath of fresh air to the PL.

I'm already aware that you can do this by clicking on the drop down arrow next to the status and blocking it but I'm finding that even though I'm doing this they are still appearing. I've done a search for the solution but everything I've found says that doing this will be enough.

I don't want to remove individual friends but I'm getting bored of seeing how well people have done playing games or their horoscopes.

Why do we never shout about our achievements? For such a small island we've had a MASSIVE impact on the world yet we always put ourselves down.

America is our cousin and they (quite rightly) display their achievements with pride. And they totally have the right to.

Why don't we do the same?
