What is a good web hosting service for a begginer?
I've got an idea for a website and I'm looking for some advice on setting it up.
To give a bit of background - This will be the first site I've ever set up so I'm completely new to this. I'm good with computers but website building and design are totally new territory for me. I initially wanted to build a bespoke site so set about learning how to do this. Unfortunately due to a very busy work and home life I simply have not had the time to teach myself web design from the ground up. A friend recommended I use Dreamweaver which, although is a very good piece of software, still requires time to master (time I regrettably don't have). I also do not have the funds to pay for a bespoke site to be built for me.
Therefore I have (reluctantly) decided to use a hosting service. I was initially looking at Godaddy but the reviews for it have been luke warm and the type of sites you can make using it seem quite limited. Can anyone recommend a good hosting service for a newbie like me?
The site I want to build won't be selling items but I would like to make a little bit of income through advertising on there.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks.

Hi, no offence meant but it sounds to me that you are planning on using the web building software provided by a hosting company. This is not something I would recommemd to anyone looking to make a long term investment in a website.
And while it is possible to start with a template or a free wordpress installation there will come a point when you need something more and without knowing the basics of HTML and CSS you will be frustrated.
My advice would be to learn the basics of HTML and CSS, create your own template, make your first few web pages and when you are happy with your progress you then buy a domain name through the registrar of your choice. Only then should you purchase hosting.
I could recommend hosting companies and even give you discount codes to use with them but I feel that this would be a dis-service to you at this point in time.
Learn the basics, create something tangible, buy the rights to a domain name through a company seperate from your hosting provider and then purchase hosting. You should not register a domain through your hosting company since a less than professional company can make it virtually impossible to retain the name if you require to move your hosting for any reason. Keep the two seperate. Not what you asked for maybe but I hope you find this useful. Jim
