The single most important thing to do is to never mix his white shirts with any other laundry. Oxy clean is a Godsend and the extra rinse is good advice.

It used to be that white clothes could be whitened with bleach, but that is not too accurate now. Almost all white clothing is DYED white. If his shirts ever need brightening up, that's what you will need to do.

Also, make sure that you deal with stains BEFORE laundering the shirts. Once you've washed and dried them, it is nearly impossible to get them out. Personally, I have good luck with handsoap on any food stain right at the sink. Make him take responsibility for watching out for stuff like that. Get one of those Tide marker things for occasional spots as they happen.

No problem. Wash whites in the washer with Tide detergent and a scoop of Oxyclean. Choose the "second rinse" option if you have one. Dry them in the dryer on medium heat with 1/2 sheet of Bounce.

Dry for only about 35 - 40 minutes, then check them. You want them mostly dry but not "bone dry".

Get the clothes out of the dryer promptly and place them on hangers.

Most shirts today are no-iron. If you get them on a hanger while they're still warm from the dryer, they'll be mostly wrinkle free.

Mr P is in the RAN and his clothes are always blindingly white. He even wears white out of hours. What I do is add 1/3 cup bicarb soda to wash. It boosts the cleaning power of laundry detergent. Once a month I soak them in really hot water with oxyclean for half an hour and then wash as usual. I line dry laundry, but then we have lots of sun, even in winter.

When you washing white clothes, hot water works the best, since your detergent powder will liquefy and work the most efficiently. Whether you use hot water or cold water depends on the sort of fabric. Cold water is generally the best choice for most fabrics, but don’t forget if you wash cotton or wool cloths so don’t use hot water. You always follow the washing directions given on the label of your clothes for best results.
