Why is there a delay in listening to online radio?

I have been listening to KFOG live on their web site. However it appears 5 to 6 minutes behind time.

I know the time difference is 8 hours but the minutes past the hour should be the same.

If I am listening live why the delay surely can not be because it is in America?

Any ideas?

Partially. All that routing, coding and decoding takes time. 5 or 6 minutes is more than average but not that unusual.

There will always be a dealy for those callers who are basically open micers that think they're Andrew Dice Clay. There's a risk of them possibly saying something out of the ordinary so if something needs to be bleeped that can still be done. All of the awards shows do it as well.

THERES ALWAYS A DELAY just incase some nut job calls in swearing an being racist or abusive they can beep it out or block it as this affects their rights to broadcast on air.
