Why is it that in any answer I give, it says all words are spelled wrong?
What use is that for real spell-checking?
e.g. It said there were 7 in the above...now 16, etc.

They have been having troubles with the spell check now for months, if not years, and now she is dead.

I believe what is happening is an initial word count, then a dictionary lookup operation where the server is snagging because of the volume of answers being edited at any given moment, so it retains that count in lieu of the actual check which will cancel all those words spelled correctly and update accordingly.
Somewhere there will be a setting in the Y!A admin that says. "Apportion ___Mb RAM to dictionary.exe",or the hardware for it is solely relied upon and is short of what's needed when meeting greater demand.
If you are editing and the number of incorrectly spelled words is very high - so likely it's the total word count, try editing a single word so the spelling is wrong - this should refresh the mispelling dialogue. If it doesn't you could assume the site traffic is high, or something is bottlenecking the available bandwidth.
Essentially is means it is not effectively managed for best results

Hi alan.
It's a good point you raise; obviously a glitch in the system. I had noticed but ignored it assuming it would be picked up by Y/A and corrected.
Hopefully your question will result in some action.
Take care.

I agree. It said I had 19 mistakes in my last answer when in fact all the words were spelt correctly. This one now says 12...

I have noticed that several a times over quite a while. Sometimes it clears itself and make the correct total
