What is a remounted production?

I have been cast in a show with a local theatre group that required 5 additional people to round out the cast for a remounted production. What's a remounted production? I only have 6 rehearsals, so I assume this means that I'm playing an extra. How does this work?

I was in a situation very similar to that in the fall. In my case, the theatre company had done a first tour with the show (The Elephant Man) in the spring of 2012. It was extremely successful, so they decided to do a second tour from September to December. However, several of the original actors were unable to return, so they brought in some new people, including me, for the second tour. I got four rehearsals before going on tour, and I wasn't an extra - I was actually replacing the lead actress. It's just that the company had a very tight schedule, so didn't have time to give me more rehearsal time. I stayed for the whole second tour, and then left the show once my contract ended because I ended up getting another lead in a different show. My understudy then took over the lead for the third remount of the show, which will be from February to June, I believe.

Before I started rehearsals, I was given a DVD of one the dress rehearsals for the original show, and a script. At my first rehearsal, I was expected to already have the original actress's blocking and lines memorized, so that I could just step in with the other actors who had already been doing the show for months. Then, at those rehearsals, my director could just focus on my performance, rather than having to teach me blocking. It was a bit of an odd experience, because I had spent weeks watching the other actors on tape, learning their blocking, but had never met any of them in real life. So, the first rehearsal, when I actually saw them in real life for the first time it was like being dropped in the middle of a movie or something. The first rehearsal was a bit intimidating, just because everybody else already knew each other and had been performing together for ages, but I caught on really quickly.

    Congratulations on getting cast! :)

A remounted production means a play they are putting on again, usually with some changes.

This may mean that half the cast has been replaced; or sometimes (especially with a new work) some if it has been re-written.
