If you have a good figure, size 12, but are 44 years old, are mini skirts, leggings mutton dressed as lamb?
I love clothes, always have, and always will. I am 5ft 11 and size 12. I lost 30lbs in weight last year, a lot of hard work and it paid off. I am enjoying wearing clothes I love again, but sometimes question if I am too old now to wear leggings, skirts above my knee or some of the tops on the market at the moment. I do not like fast trashy clothes, I am talking about more sexy office clothes and leggings and nice tops etc.. still wear jeans (tight-ish) and enjoy doing my nails, hair and make up. People tell me Iook well, but heard a comment from someone I work with who said I need to dress more my age!! made me question how I dress and if I am mutton dressed as lamb!! Don't want to wear the flat shoes and cardie just yet :/ what do you think?? Please no hurtful answers. Thanks.

As they say, "If you got it, flaunt it." You worked hard for the body you want to show off... So show it off! Many people can't manage to stay in shape at 44 years old and this results in such comments as the negative one you mentioned. Pay no attention as they have nothing to do with your success, but everything with their own failures. Don't succumb to what I call the "Get old, Get fat, and Hide" culture. Best of luck with your fashion endeavors!

For office wear. A typical Pencil Cut knee length mini-dress will do. Sleeveless cut is good. Just avoid low necklines. This is actually my office wear as well.
Sleeveless tops are quite the in thing with fashion nowadays. Just pair them with slacks or "not so skinny jeans" not unless ofcourse you are in a cocktail party or at the bar.
Casually though... It is not set in stone that you cannot wear a certain style of clothing past a certain age. There is no law against it. I feel just as long as you have the figure and the confidence to wear a type of dress then you should wear it.
If you feel confident wearing a halter top with an above the knee length mini-skirt.. Then by all means do so. Nothing wrong with that. Most tops

Whatever happened to "it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it"? If you don't feel old enough to wear what other women, the same age, are wearing then don't!! This person at work maybe just has more 'traditional' views on the correlation between age and how to dress. Just because you're wearing a mini skirt it doesn't mean it's made of leather and has to be worn with stockings, they can be incredibly classy - just look at the '60s!! I say go for it, and congratulations on the weight loss!!

I'd be wary of wearing the mini skirt not unless it was teamed with long boots, thick tights and maybe a long jumper belted. If you really want to wear a short skirt I would avoid high shoes for sure.
Leggings are great as long as you know what parts of your body that you would maybe be best to not put on show ie. the camel toe is a big no no. The leggings with high heels is not a great look unless you are young and going clubbing but if you want to still have height in your shoe then wedges are ideal and dont look slutty.
Well done for losing the weight and remember the golden rule ... show one or the other....either show off your amazing legs but keep your top half covered well or visa versa.

I personally think that it is a little "mutton" if you ask me. However, well done for losing the weight! You do deserve to show off your figure as you have worked hard, but it IS possible to dress sexy but maturely at the same time.
You used flat shoes and cardi's as an example of an older person's clothing. Well, I think that's wrong, you CAN look sexy but mature in anything, as long as you have confidence in your step! :)

Mini Skirts are considered Office Wear in the UK??? I spent my entire working life in the wrong country.
It is not your body that says no, it is your age. At 44 yrs. old, you are no longer a teenager, don't try to look like one, you look best in knee length or longer skirts and more conservative tops. You want to appeal to men who are 40 - 50 yr. olds., not 18 - 20 yr. olds. As a middle aged man, I would be embarrassed to be with someone dressed like my daughter..

You are old enough to dress however you blood well like!
Ignore people who make snide comments. They are probably a bit jealous or have old-fashioned views.

men will love and admire you
fashionable women will understand you
fat chubsters that are jealous and wish you hadn't become what you have become will hate on you and explain their made-up rules to you
PS: personally mini skirts are fun and free but leggings are a waste
