how many generations does it take to be deemed a native?
Ok so I understand that Australia is a multi cultural country made up of mainly european and english migrants. But at what point does a person become an Australian to be deemed to be apart of a race. They say that white australians are not a race, only the indigenous Australians are.
so for instance Im an 8th gen Australian on my fathers side and im a 7th on my mothers. Im 32 years of age which makes me a Borderline Gen y and Im pretty sure 8th generation is as far back as you can go for someone of my generation in regards to convicts and free settlers so forth. So in terms of science and genes bloodlines ect at what point is a person deemed of that race. Im confusing myself here and hope some one out there gets my question!
ok but isnt the definition of a native A person born in a specified place or associated with a place by birth, whether subsequently resident there or not. Associated with the country, region, or circumstances of a person's birth.
so explain why a white australian cant be deemed a native

I think what you meant was, when do certain people become the natives of the land? I think you can say Australia is yours and your blood and history are well permanently settled into that land.

White Australians are Caucasian White. They're not there own separate race, just ethnic group.
The indigenous people of Australia will ALWAYS be the Aborigines. Same with in the Americas... the English are NOT the native people - never will be.
"Race" is merely a social construct due to people's appearance. White Australians will only become a new race if they some how evolve into a new "race "obviously - unique appearance.

You can't. That's like saying a descendent of George Washington is Native American. No, They are white. The race Native American exists already.

The whole thing is completely messed up anyway. I m "white" and although my ancestry can be traced to the Mayflower, my lineage would never be considered "native" American. On the other hand, if I had even the slightest fraction of "native" American in my lineage, it would be. It only applies apologetically to "indigenous" peoples whose ancestry can be traced to a region and who have been displaced by the white man. Oh, and all "whites" are considered to be "Caucasian" whether or not their ancestry actually includes anyone from the Caucasus region, apparently.
But, just to show how messed up the whole system is, "white" people from Russia (only some of which would be true Caucasians), although from Asia, would never be considered to be Asian, only white...no matter how many generations they have been there. "African American" applies only to "black" people, regardless of how many generations have passed since an ancestor had actually set foot in Africa, while at the same time a "white" person from South Africa, a Libyan, or even an Egyptian, although born in Africa, never would be considered "African American."
So, do "black" people in other areas call themselves "African Europeans," "African South Americans," African Asians," etc., or does it only apply in the U.S.A.? Just wondering.

^ sooo, If "native Americans" descend from Mongolia how are they native american? By your own definition of "native" native Americans aren't native either electric lady ?
