is it racist to call an australian an aussie?

its apparently racist to call a lebanes a lebo, a pakistani a paki and a aboriginal an ***..all these are basic australian slang as a lot of australians tend to shorten their words. Be amazed that there is never any hatred or voilent talk when majority use these slang words, which I understand why Austrlians are deemed racist.. But why is it not deemed racist to call an australian an aussie

The difference between calling an Australian person an 'Aussie' and calling a Pakistani person a 'Paki' is that the term 'Paki' has derogatory connotations. In retrospect it is an abbreviation, but over time it has been turned into an insult. If someone in the UK who also happens to be racist ever got into an argument with someone of Pakistani origin or someone who they presumed was Pakistani they would call that person a 'Paki' as an insult - This does not happen with the term 'Aussie'.

No - even if Australian was a race (and it isn't), it wouldn't be. In fact, "C'mon, Aussie, C'mon!" has been a hit TWICE in Australia.

"Aussie" is not a racial slur, it's just an alternative demonym for the NATIONALITY (not race) of Australia.

  • Ha ha no, not at all. We proudly call ourselves Aussies.

No, it is not. They call themselves that when they visit other countries anyway.
