Isn't it unfair to say SL is a below avarage in tests. ? some stats below.?
These are SL's record in tests after year 2000, because SL their test status in 1982 it's not fair to consider their full record in deciding how good(or bad) they were in tests.
mat win loss win/loss
vs Pak 25 8 7 1.14
vs WI 12 6 2 3
vs NZ 10 4 3 1.33
vs ENG 20 5 7 0.71
vs SA 15 5 7 0.71
vs AUS 13 0 10 0
vs IND 15 5 7 0.71
vs BAN 15 14 -
vs ZIM 5 5 -
only against AUS they have a poor record.
their overall win/loss ratio is 52/33 ---> 1.57
even after excluding the records against BAN and ZIM they still have 1:1 ratio in wining( 33-won, 33 lost)
so aren't they have done well enough to rate as a good test team.?
Edit : Pakistan's record is worse than Sri Lanka in that period of time(from year 2000 ) so how can someone claim Pakistan is better than SL in tests.?
Edit : SL used to rank among the top three consistently in last decade. But now they rank at no.7 mainly because they didn't play enough test cricket. Even Bangladesh played more tests than SL in last year. Only a troll can say SL is a minnow just because they currently ranked at no 7. They will surely climb to top 3 in near future as now they settling down as a formidable unit. Last series performance against Pakistan is a good indication for that.

It's indeed unfair. You have proven that SL has stood toe to toe with other major test playing nations in last 13 years. Australia was the only exception as they've been the toughest of them all. SL's record against SA shows our capability of showing fortitude against any top team. And SA are the current number one right? India's record against them is not good as ours.
Now ppl who call SL is an average test team. Fine. But what about India? Seriously are they a great test team? Lol apart from winning at home what has happened to them overseas? They must be extremely lucky to be ranked number one once. Give BCCI credit for that :) Now show me one example where they defeated a top team away from home? If you are the true number one you should be able to do so. But nope, India is no different from SL. If SL are average then India are average too. Perhaps just marginally better than us in last 2-3 years as we were not good in tests off late but that doesn't change the main fact. The fact of the matter though is that no Lankan claim SL as a "great" test team. But Indians do although it's far from reality. 4-0, 4-0 1-0.... thrashing after thrashing... Doesn't look pretty..
now you just don't have to worry much about some fans who call SL below average. They are delusional and they simply want to get over their frustrations of their team getting thrashed whenever tour in places like Eng, SA and Aus. At least we have done better than them when we tour there. And I have seen just a single Australian who call SL a minnow test team. He pointed out that SL has won more matches against Ban and Zim while not being so good against others. It's simply laughable bcz are we supposed to be bad against Ban and Zim while being good against those tough teams? Any team will have a better winning % against weak teams..Even a 12 year old can figure that out. So he is ignorable among many genuine Aussies. .Ignore the fool... Simple as that.
SL's overall winning % in tests is better than India and I know that can raise few eyebrows whether you like to admit the truth or not. I see SL, IND and Pak all 3 teams are in the same league in tests. Pakistan were better some years ago but no more. If SL is average, so as India and Pakistan. If SL is below average or a minnow so as India and Pakistan. It's the simple truth because that's the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Source(s): Edit- Adarsh no my point is "being number 1 India should have done far better than just winning a single test at losing cause or just drawing a test series away against a top team" Your stats show that India has done just above average at times. True number one must win at least one series against a top team(not Nz) away. Back in 2007 Eng team was not good when you beat them. We also drew 1-1 against them in Eng(2006)! If you say that drawing a test series is such a monumental achievement for your "great" team then we are not too far away from greatness ;-) All I see is that India have been marginally better than SL at times but equally are worst than us at overseas sometimes as the 4-0 score lines show. So no real big dif. between Ind and SL. - ?Lv 47 years ago
True it is unfair to rate SL below average for sure. As you said stat against Australia is the only down point and after that SL is very much competitive against other so called top 3. SL beat South Africa in South Africa in a one match and everyone knows what happens to SA in SL. Same story for England even though last time we lost to 1-0 in England we were head to head away and home if you consider last 10 years. SL in India and India in SL same story. Home advantage. Its just rating nothing else.
Only haters rate SL as below average and ask questions about SL yet blocking almost all the SL users.

First let me tell you this. India is just a average team, look at their records, from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka when you look in to their overall win/lost ratio, Pakistan at 1st place, Sri Lanka at 2nd place and guess what who is in the 3rd place, it is India indeed..lollzzzzzzzzzz
no matter what ranking said, India is just India that we've all knew, they are just an average team, from 1996 they have being SL's favorite punching bag, and after 2011, fthey have won 11 of last 14 games played between SL and Ind, and with that performance, these trolls all got life to speak. but do not worry, our favorite punching bag is returning very soon to their original Average status. with kindergarten bowling and Minnow fielding and Minnow bowling these average team wouldn't be survive for too long lol..
What these trolls trying to do is just to disrupt the attention and fact that they've been whitewashed in overseas continuously. so do not fall in to trap.

DUDE...Don`t fall in to this trap
All this talk about SL`s test record is to take the attention away from India`s pathetic performances in New Zealand...Was there any question from a Lankan users questioning India or their record within last week or two here ?
The answer is NO
Indians including the regulars and `saints` have been posting rubbish about SL again and again , primelive guy have BLOCKED all lankans and insult SL in his Qs so lankans can`t see what he is talking !
I decided to block them only after that.blocked this guy MEOW only because he gives the same answer for every question..no matter the question is his answer is ` SL is a minnow !! `
That user `Meow` was an Aussie few months back but now got revealed and its apparent that he is an Indian...Even that `De Velliers` guy is an indian he is insulting his own team so that they get some sympathy
This dilema happens every time when India lose...They are masters at drawing the attention away
Source(s): EVAN - Stop talking rubbish..No Sri Lankan user claimed that SL as the best Test team..Its you Indians who keep chest pumping ...Also SA and Australia have been better than SL in Tests but India is mroe or less the same..its unbelievable that no matter how much you lose you guys keep rating India as the best EVAN - I ll ask you the same question ! Who the hell told you SL is an amzing test team ? Please provide a link where an SL user claims that SL is the best test team ? No one did..You guys are making stuff up to cover your loss..no one from SL questioned your away record either,,we don`t give (r@p whether India lose in NZ or Not..Indian users are making a huge drama out of nothing and try to pretend like we are all abusing India so that it drives every ones attention from India`s losses ! - EvanLv 67 years ago
Haven't comprehended the stats u gave, but all rivalry, all jokes, all gabbling, all...all.. apart none will rate SL above Aus, SA, India & England. (With all stats, %s, ratios etc etc these teams have won many more matches against SL dan SL have against them). So 4 are definitely above SL... That’d keep SL somewhere in d middle to lower, that’s all.....
Edit: Blocking is gutless..never did it unless in extreme cases where 4 letter words were involved..all of us can have differences of opinion, and say what we think is right...there need not be any ill feelings....we give, get back, we take it on d chin and move on....
Edit: Someone blocked me from using "Regards'...still smarting from it....:(
Edit: Sanga, u r upset for some reasons....it's not rubbish I am talking....win 1 test in India, and I may listen to you..( But then U'd come up wid BCCI, doctored itch, home conditions etc, but before you make a further fool of yrself think why this applies only to SL, and not others who have beaten India in India...ask Cook; he'll tell u India is d easiest team to beat in India...)

No one can deny that Pakistan have a better bowling attack than those two pathetic teams. Huh. And keep beating those two in and out regardless of the location and situation. Pak got talents and ruling the world
- Sammy B~Lv 57 years ago
Ok......they're just above average, after South Africa, India, Australia, England, Pakistan. Happy now?
Edit: I unblock you Evan, happy? :P
And my Maths is very weak..I think SL has lost 43 Tests, not 33. The ratio is 33/43 which is below average.
And who is talking about blocking whom? It is Sanga the King who has blocked others from answering his questions. What a fxcker that guy is.
Regards.
Source(s): Sanga, out of your mind? When did I even pretend to be an Aussie? Why would I even do that? And who said that all this to draw attention away from India's pathetic performance in NZ? Calm down fxcker, you were the one condemning the BCCI and all Indians for the new ICC proposals out of jealousy & hate...remember? Talk of a comparison, bothered to check India's performance since 2000? - Anonymous7 years ago
Yes, they have done pretty well in tests since 2000.
- Anonymous7 years ago
Srilanka have done good till now, but so good as the others.

Evan : don't worry about that sanga the king, he is a troll who only knows to talk about India's overseas performance of last 3 years to hide his team's average record. People can take him seriously if he answers from his original account instead of trolling around.
By seeing these stats I observe that SL aren't that poor in tests , they are still only 30 years odd old to cricket so they can still better that record. But at this point of time they are still an average team. It's just that a couple of SL trolls in this section here are so annoying that ,it has made every user to call SL as minnows.
yahoo should kick out these annoying trolls like sanga the king who are spreading hatred & disturbing the peace in this section.
Dinith : India's overall stats is poor but after 2000 it tells a different story. Tell me what has India done away from home in tests ? Ok here is what they have done after 2000:
1)A drawn series vs England 1-1 in 2002.
2)A drawn series vs aus 1-1 retaining the BG trophy.
3)Won a test match vs rsa in rsa in 2006 at Johannesburg, lost the series 1-2.
4)Won a test match vs aus in aus in 2008, lost the series 1-2(because of umpiring in Sydney test).
5)won test series vs eng in eng 1-0 in 2007.
6)won test series vs Nz in Nz 1-0 in 2009.
7)A drawn series vs rsa in rsa 1-1 in 2010.
8)won test series vs Pak in Pak 2-1 in 2004.
They have also won a couple of test series in West Indies. Yes I agree that under dhoni India have been a poor test team overseas & the tag "lions at home,Sheeps overseas" is returning under him since last 3 years but the reason is poor captain & also that team is young & is in a transformation phase.
Also India have won test series in England & West Indies during the 70s away from home.
Dinith : drawing a series vs aus in aus was a big achievement. And winning a series vs eng in eng in 2007 was also a big achievement. They have also won 3 test series in Nz & WI. India have had good overseas records in last decade & excellent home record which made them #1 team. It's not that easy winning a series overseas. Even mighty Aussies lost 4 test series in India from 1996-2010 during their domination. Whereas what about SL's record in tests vs aus ?
