Question for Jehova's Witnesses?

My question is "Why do you do this"?

I just had two Jehova's Witnesses at my door and told them politely that I'm an Apatheist but my mam used to have bible readings with Jehova's Witnesses.

My mam died 24 yrs ago.

I explaind that I'm just not interested but they played their trump card, they actually said " Your mam would want you to believe " and "Your mam would want to see you again ".

I've actually had this happen to me several times and one person said "Well, don't you want to see your mam again".

I'm certainly not a violent or confrontational person but inside I wanted to tell them to "bug ger off".

It really upset me.

Update:

@Scott, of course I would want to see my mother, father and brother again but according to Jehova's Witnesses that's not going to happen unless I believe and even if I did believe then I'd only see my mam because my dad didn't believe and my brother commited suicede.

All the years that my mam had bible readings I used to sit and listen and no disrespect to you but I didn't believe then and still don't believe now.

Plus the person who said "well don't you want to see your mam again" said it in a sarcastic tone of voice to make me feel guilty.

Update 2:

@Scott please don't try to convert me because you'll be flogging a dead horse.

I'm an Apatheist, I couldn't give a monkeys whether God exists or not.

Update 3:

Thanks everyone for your answers.

They do this because they don't think. They do this because they are insensitive. They do this because they are under the impression that every right-thinking person would want to live forever on a paradise earth. They do this because they preach a false gospel.

Your restraint is to be commended. However, if more people told Jehovah's Witnesses just how insulting and hurtful their thoughtless remarks are, they just might think twice about opening their mouths before engaging their brains.

But then, most of them have a script to follow and because they think they are right and everybody who disagrees with them is wrong, your chances of having a meaningful, two way conversation with a Jehovah's Witness is pretty slim. It's a real pity that so many Witnesses can't think for themselves.

I've had three different sets of JWs knock on my door in the last 3-4 weeks - they are very difficult to get rid of without being firm. If they had tried anything like that with me I'd have told them to 'go away' in no uncertain terms

They all had English accents... I think they came over for a bit of a busman's holiday.

Agree with it or not they are correct in what they said. If your mom knew the truth and followed the truth she would undoubtedly want you to know the truth and follow the truth as well. As a parent myself there is nothing in the world I want more than my daughter to know the truth and follow it. Literally nothing.

Is it not a legitimate question asking if you would want to see you're mom again? Obviously you would want to see her again, right? Well the Bible tells how that can happen. They can show you where it says that in the Bible. They can show you EXACTY what needs to be done to see your mother again. Common sense would say if there is a possibility to see a now dead loved one again you would want to know how to do it!

I am sorry if you were offended by their words but I assure you they were not trying to offend. They were trying to give you hope. Something this world does not have much of.

Perhaps you should just listen to what they have to say. What's the harm in that?

Source(s): @Vicki, That's not what we teach because that's not what the Bible says. That goes to show you that you would benefit from a conversation because you can't say you agree or don't when you don't know what they teach. And most importantly WHY they teach it. Read Acts 24:15. The resurrection will be for both the righteous AND the unrighteous. Even if your dad and your brother fall into that category you can see them again. That's what we teach because that what the Bible says. You didn't "believe" 25 years ago. You're older now. Wiser. Maybe it will make sense to you now. It does to 8 million other people. That's right greytower-- a JW doesn't think for themselves--because they are the only ones to accomplish this--Matt 16:24---

Thinking for oneself gets 33,000 different religions claiming to be Christian but are just a disunified mass of confusion.

    Bugger off, you say?

    Hmm

    Why not talk in tongues?

    Or, try a smurf, perhaps?

doing something tedious or stressful with little hope of success is team-building, I guess. ever notice how there's always two of them, but only one doing the talking?
