Simple ieas for marinating Tofu before frying/grilling? (I'm not vegan/veggie)?

I need some easy ideas for marinating (extra firm) tofu befure cooking, the only thing I've came up with so far is using chicken stock and curry powder. And what is the best way to do it .is it better to soak it in a bowl of whatever you're using or just coat it in the marinade and leave it in the fridge? Sorry for the awkward questions, I've never used it before =)

Also I'm not a vegan so it doesn't necessarily Have to be vegan just so you know ^^

Thank you in advanced! xXx

If you freeze tofu first, then let it dethaw it will be much firmer. My suggestion is to cute it up in cubes, put it in a plastic baggie and freeze if for a few hours. Take it out and let it dethaw, and then marinate it.

You can marinate it in barbeque sauce for a while, and then removie it and roll it in a mixture of 2 egg whites and 1/2 cup to 1 cup of flour. then, you can either fry it or bake it (barbeque tofu!)

I also like to marinate it in a mixture of soy sauce, lemon juice and worcestershire sauce. Makes for an awesome addition to stor fry or just alongside plain white rice.

    Mix;

    2 parts orange juice

    2 parts soy sauce

1 part sugar ( or 2 tbsp per 1/4 cup of soysauce)

It doesn't sound very good but, it is.

You can also use any marinade you would use for meat.

I also like to marinate it for a short time and then baste it half way through cooking.

Is actually a vegetable when you buy it and a fruit when you eat it.

I definitely prefer fresh vegetables more. I don't like all the acid in many fruits.

You don't really have to marinate the tofu; you need a tasty sauce to cover it with. Deep fry chunks of tofu in hot oil for a few minutes until it's crispy then take it out and make your sauce. Stir fry some garlic, chopped shallots and chilli in a wok for a minute or so and you could add some chopped tomatoes, (the amount depends on the size of the meal but a couple of chopped tomatoes say), some salt, sugar and fish sauce in about equal quantities, stir it around and let the tomatoes break down a bit and then add a little bit of water, about 100 mls and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the tofu to the wok and gently stir it around. Serve with what ever you want. Any sauce of your liking would work though, even a bought jar of sauce poured over the deep fried tofu would be nice.

You can pick up cooking sauces in the Asian section of most grocery stores (I think the ones I have are House of Tsang) and use those for marinades. Other, conventional BBQ sauces would probably work as well. Flavor them with custom ingredients to suit your taste (Tabasco, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, etc.)

Tofu will absorb whatever you marinade it in, or the flavours in the cooking itself, so you can choose whatever you wish to suit your dish whether it is curry tonight and chilli tomorrow it doesnt matter, jjust open you cupboards and see what herbs and spices you have, bottled sauces etc and have a great meal.

    Tip

just taste as you go to make a flavour you will like
