Last system login?

My friends computer is asking for the "last system login" when the start up their computer, they have never had to do this before, they have tried all known passwords but none work, they cannot get past this step, is there any way around this problem?

    Try using system restore and restoring it to a date when it was working right. If that doesn't work you may try booting up in Safe mode and then select Last Known Good when the screen with choices comes up.

    Thanks Ron, it won't let them into anything not even safe mode
