internet connection issues?
My laptop will connect to my home wi-fi network without any problems, however it will detect my phone but not connect to it for me to use it as a mobile "Hot "Spot" to access the internet. other devices, my Kindle and my wife's laptop will connect through the phone.
If I run a diagnostic on the connection the results tell me there is a problem with my wireless adapter or access point, but how can this be if other devices are able to connect through the phone?
Any help would be good, thanks

There are a small percentage of hotspot (router, access point or phone) and device combinations that have problems. The symptoms range from:
1) The device does not detect that the wireless network is there.
2) The device detects the network but refuses to connect to it.
3) The device connects to the network, but the speed is slow and the connection may drop out for no apparent reason.
I have experienced these symptoms with my own routers and devices. My WiFi webcam would not detect my old router, but works fine with my new router. My laptop worked fine with my old router, but was not happy working with my new router.
The solution for devices such as phone, webcams and tablets is to replace the router or add a wireless access point (of a different make). For desktop and laptop computers, then there are additional options:
1) Disable the original wireless adapter and add a USB wireless adapter to use instead.
2) Find a different driver for the existing adapter.
One other thing you can check is that the phone's hotspot is not using channels 12, 13 or 14. These are not available in the USA, and as far as I know 14 is available only in Japan. The drivers for many of the wireless adapters for desktop and laptop computers are restricted in their configuration to use channels 1 to 11 only. I have used WiFi networks outside the USA that were operating on channel 13. On both my laptop and my netbook I had to find the appropriate driver file, which fortunately was a text file, and edit the file to allow channels 12 and 13 to be used. This is unlikely to be the problem, but as I have had this problem twice it seemed worth mentioning.
I hope this helps.

Your other devices should connect directly to the Wifi router.
Your phone, to be a mobile hotspot, (away from home) must
1 - have a cell service provider and OS that allows that
2 - must be connected to the internet via a cellular data connection
If you have the hotspot working and other devices can connect to it, then maybe your phone's hotspot does not support something that Windows requires, or maybe your laptop's virus protection or firewall is set to not connect to untrusted networks.
