How can I ask my friend to stop going on about her dead dog?

Her dog died over a year ago (yes it's sad) and she keeps going on and on about it. I had to have one of my dogs put to sleep last month. And hearing all her negativity makes me feel sad about my dog. Who I've only just come to terms with losing.

I don't want to say anything that might upset her. But I feel like I'll end up snapping at her

Then either listen and deal with it or distance yourself from her giving her more time to grieve. Everyone grieves differently, some require more time and it helps some to talk about it.

When she starts in again just hold up your hand and say 'just STOP. This happened over a year ago, it's in the past and you need to come to terms with that. Please don't mention this again. I've gone through my own loss and it's making things harder for me to deal with it myself."

Anytime she starts up again stop her right there and say you don't want to hear about it.

Do not say a word, just give her a hug.
