Typically adults spend a few more cycles in delta wave patterns after they did exercise, needing healing. Teenagers, who need to grow 11 inches and 100lb of people meat in 5 years also tend to sleep extra long and spend more time in healing waves if you let them, anyhow.

Really depends on that particular 14 year old. Even as a child before, during and after my teens, I got on avg 4 to 6 hours of sleep. Less if I was into a book or a game. The big difference for me has been my ability to go to sleep when I was ready to go to sleep. No tossing and turning, just poof sleep.
The avg teen according to studies, should get 9 to 12 hours if sleep, but with gaming, texting and other social media options, that is not something I think happens as much as it should.

8 hrs is good, 9 or 10 is better.
