employment law & directive time working ( uk )?

my employer over the Christmas period opened the shop on 17th & 24th ( as extra trading days ).

Staff had BANK HOLIDAYS off as holiday ( 25&26th and 1-1-18 ).

So efficiently staff were using their holiday as " days off " on rota, as none given.

So this week we had 31-1-17 off as store closed, 1-1-18 as holiday and the next 5 days in work.

Is this legal? if not actually why not

    They can include bank holidays.

If they will PAY you as if they were holiday days, I personally would let it slide. Remember, kicking up a fuss and ending up losing a job may be a problem for you. 2 days wage/holiday isn't worth losing a job totally, though that's just a worse case scenario. Will they pay you for the 2 days "holidays"?

You are entitled to 25 days holiday a year including public holidays if given.

You are entitled to work no more than an average of 48 hours a week over an average of 2 weeks.

However if you signed a waiver you can work up to 60 hours a week.

You are not entitled to public holidays off. It is just a convention.

Many staff get to work on public holidays especially in retail and hospitality.
