Why didn't the '68 Democratic National Convention in Chicago hasten the end of the Vietnam War?

The convention took place 50 years ago.

The Vietnam War ended 5 years later for the US in 1973.

    It was Johnson's war and Johnson's DEMONcrat party, even though he was not seeking Re-Erection,

    I have no idea why you would think that the party that lied us into that war (Tonkin Gulf Incident) would 'hasten' to end it.
