Why is for some people more valuable empathy than truth?

I've read that a person who is brutally honest enjoys the brutality as much as the honesty and maybe more.

We CAN be honest and compassionate simultaneously. Honesty is important. So is love. So are people.

Empathy does not involve facing the truth and coming out of your comfort zone, its just to help you wallow in the same mind set knowing others have been through or feel the same as you, which some people find comforting to know others are suffering too, it all seems like a narcissistic way to live if you ask me, and people think I'm uncaring.
