why am I not getting the option to choose question category ?

The site changed the way that was programmed years ago. Now, you post your question, an algorithm, based on keywords in your question, selects a subcategory and if it isn't the most appropriate one for your question, you're free to relocate your question once it's submitted to the site (or any Level 7 user may relocate it for you, if it's found in a subcategory not relevant to the topic).

There is always an option to do that once you posted your question.

you cant before the question is posted after its posted you can pick it before you post it yahoo will try and guess what category to place it in based on key words used in your question if its not placed correctly you can move it to move it go to your question under the blue edit menu click on edit category then select the new category to put it in then click submit

Yahoo assigns a new question to a subcategory based on the word used in the question. You can move your own question to any other category no matter what your level. Level 7 users have the ability to move anyone question anywhere they like. Most who move questions here will send it to an inappropriate subcategory. Their life is meaningless and this is a way they feel to have a life. Nothing much you can do about it except move it back to the right subcategory.

Because Yahoo that option. Away in 2013 when they changed Yahoo and YA to the purple format is why. Computer programs match keywords in your question to the categories and subcategories of YA. Verizon has improved those programs a lot. We are no longer getting questions about movie stars in Astronomy & Space as much as we used to. I found this question in Yahoo Products > Yahoo Answers, but it may land somewhere else.

If you post a question go to your question, click 'Edit' and then select 'Edit Category'. You will see a list of categories and can move it where you want it.

Once it posts, click edit under the question and move it to the desired category. On some odd mobiles, you must be in Desktop mode to see the option.

You don't choose but you can change it once it posts
