Singapore Airlines is not a manufactured object. It is a flag carrier airline of the Republic of Singapore. Tamasek Holdings, a Singapore government Sovereign Wealth Fund investment company is a majority owner of the airline.

Incorporated in 1947 as Malayan Airlines Limited it operated its first flight between Singapore and Kuala Lampur on 2 April 1947. When Singapore left the Federation of Malaysia in 1966 the airline became known as Singapore-Malaysia Airlines. The airline split in 1972 into Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airline System (MAS,) with Singapore Airlines concentrating on international flights out of Singapore, and MAS initially concentrating on domestic flights.

The airline is ranked among the top 15 airlines and is considered to be one of the world's best airlines for in-flight service. It operates a young fleet consisting of Boeing and Airbus passenger and cargo aircraft.
