Why do people not choose a Best Answer to their questions?

It seems like the polite thing to do if someone goes out of their way to give a thoughtful and useful answer. Doesn’t matter to me, it just doesn’t make sense.

Polite isn't the forte' of the majority here. Many users just forget. Others post just to be posting and don't care about getting back 3 pts for themselves or giving any other user 10 pts for providing a useful response. Some users will award BA to gibberish or nonsense, just to get back their 3 pts.

I you use YA and are serious about wanting to provide quality answers to help people, you have to be content in the idea that you may have helped someone (the OP or some other person who sees the question and your answer, and benefits from it) and not allow points or BA % to be a big driver for you to be here, or you will be disappointed.

Idk I keep seeing the same questions over & over, wondering why nobody chosed a best answer, that way we dont gotta keep seeing it, I'm having to go to other categories just to see a different question

In some cases it's a matter of that there's more than one really good answer to the question which are correct. In other cases none of the answers address the question. In other cases the answer can be a spam or troll answer. Then finally there are those who ask questions, that doesn't care about picking a best answer, which are either trolls that didn't get the answer they wanted, or in many cases young teens that finds their way to Yahoo Answers, and don't always have a good handle on how things are supposed to work.

Depends.. sometimes there is no answer that's best...sometimes there isn't even a good one...or the asker doesn't know which answer is best.

who cares about three measly points?

I agree it is the Most Polite thing to do but some people dont have time to come back and Pick a Best Answer or some people are just to Lazy to Pick something

There mite even be a Few people that dont know that Voting was Discontinued so they Figure that the Users would Decide

Because they don't care, they are too lazy or they don't know that they can get 3 points back just by picking the best answer.

For me I have a difficult time deciding when they are more than one really good answer.

Also, people tend to stop answering a question if a Best Answer has been chosen

Good question..............I Always felt that if people took the time to answer my questions, the least I could do is show some respect and award the 10 pts to somebody.......so I try to close out all my questions.

Over on the Yahoo Fanstasy Baseball board........I notice there's a ton of still open OLD questions........

but that's because many of them were TROLL questions, that got maliciously moved there.......and the trolls probably got suspended for asking all these BS questions, before they got the chance to close them out.

Perhaps that just one reason. That would apply to many other categories like Politics and R&S too, where the serial trolls create new level 1 socks...............use the free 100 pts, to ask 20 troll questions, and then just dispose of the account and create a new one. for another free 100 pts.

There are literally thousands of level 1 accounts here, that are down to zero or just 3 or 4 points. ...not enough to ask another question. So they just start another.
