Are there areas of the U.S. where grits are more of a dinner food than a breakfast food?

I live in the South, and here most offerings of grits are on the breakfast menu. Shrimp and Grits are (thankfully) sometimes on the lunch or dinner menu, and an occasional restaurant offers them as a side, but for the most part, grits are for breakfast.

In the south, grits are more of a dinner food than a breakfast food because they are mixed with shrimp for example.

Some southern states have grits as a side dish.

For example:-

Shrimp & grits.

With meat loaf.

Stew or casserole.

In the south lots of people eat grits anytime of the day

I was at a restaurant in Chicagoland that served "grit cakes." They didn't really feature grits on the breakfast menu. I think the chef picked up grits when training or working south of the Mason/Dixon line, thought they'd be great made into a savory dinner side, but didn't think of them as hot breakfast cereal. From that, I'd surmise that in pockets of "the North" there are people who appreciate them more like grain than like oats. Think about this: Wheat is "Cream of Wheat" or bread, I'd bet you eat it more as bread.
