I once encountered a Shih Tzu pup that was afraid of sunlight. I was looking around for a new pup and went to check out one 2 hours away. The breeder raised it inside her house and I wasn't satisfied about how she unsteady moved. I asked to bring the pup out to see how it ran and lo and behold, it just froze under the sun, not knowing what to do. My wife pitied it so much we ended up buying it just the same. When we arrived back home, it was dark so the pup was satisfied playing in the driveway. The next day, before sunrise I brought the pup out again. With the sun still weak, the puppy suddenly saw our huge yard and ran, here and there and everywhere. By the time the sun was fully up, she was used to the light and the heat already.

Some dogs are just that way. My dog gets all the outside time in the world, and has a firm hand on training and knowing where he stands from my husband and I. We do not coddle him, we don't spoil him, and we don't baby him, however, he is a ball of anxiety and has been that way ever since we got him (he was 4 months and a rescue, now over a year). He's going through one of his episodes right now, and is totally scared of our doors (again). The wind keeps pushing the doors closed, or causing them to open by themselves and he FREAKS OUT. We ignore it. We know that in a few days, he'll be over it and back to himself. 

Many dogs have quirks and are scared of things they aren't supposed to. My mom's dog is the nicest, friendliest Golden you could ever imagine. My mom raised her from a puppy and she's now turning 11 this year. When she was 6 months old, and to this DAY my mom has no idea what happened, but she started hating BRICKS. Of all things, that's what she hates. Not bricks that are already built up, but stand alone bricks. She'll bark and bark at them, tuck her tail, growl...at a brick. Don't know why. Dogs can be weird.
