With good reason if a person has not a clue how to work with or approach or ride a horse. They are a huge animal and should have a person with equine knowledge handling them. I really don't care for reptiles as a pet, to each their own.

Because you can't read them, when you spend a lot of time around horses you get to read their body language and of course handling them you get more confidence.

As others have said they are big and could do you a lot of damage, so if you are not used to them it is wise to be wary.

I had ponies for many years and would rather walk through a field of 20 unknown horses than one cow, an animal I am very nervous of, unless they are on the other side of a fence.

Personally I think horses have beautiful eyes.

If you fear horses because they are dead fish eyes, I fear for your vision and sanity.

I am not sure. I grew up with horses, and know they are probably one of the most fearful, skittish creatures around. It is good to be cautious around horses since they are only a thousand pounds or so. But other than that, they are domesticated and when trained properly, very gentle.

As for the dead fish eyes, I am not sure what to say. I always thought they had very kind, sweet eyes! They do have large eyes though....but again look at deer. They are the prey animals, not predators, so they have massive ears and eyes that make them spook at their own shadow.

I don't like them at all - seems like the last couple I was around tried to bite me. A big draft mule in Death Valley was very cool though - big friendly doofus who loved apples and pets.

Because you know nothing about them, I expect. That's a common reason why people get scared of most things, including horses.

Why does it make my eyes bleed when people can't figure out the difference between "they're", "there" and "their"?

Having a little fear of a 1200 pound animal seems rational especially if you don't know anything about handling them properly.

Because they are bigger, stronger and maybe smarter than we are. You can't force them by strength to do anything. They kick, they stomp and they bite too. They are dangerous beasts indeed. I don't think they have "dead fish eyes" though. I think their eyes are very expressive.

horses are very intelligent. they don't automatically trust humans, so you have to earn their respect and trust. they also have a good sense of smell and they can smell your emotions, from kindness to dislike.

I'm a grown man and I still feel a bit uncomfortable around horses.
