Help! My monitor won't connect to anything!!?

I can't connect to any source even though it's connected to either of my two laptops with a supported HDMI cord. I previously used this monitor as an additional display but stopped connecting?? I tried everything and no matter what I do this monitor won't connect up to anything.

    Turn off your computer.

Unplug the cable running from your monitor to your PC and plug it back in, making sure the connection is firm. ...

Reattach the cable running from your monitor to your PC. ...

Replace your monitor with another monitor if possible. ...

Open your PC case and locate your video card.

everything?  how about the under the right edge buttons on the monitor?  monitors are known for being plenty dumb and if you accidentally set it to look for a DVI input while it is connected via HDMI, it won't find anything at all
