Vauxhall Astra 2011 Overheating?

Hi, I've got a 1.7 turbo Astra. Few weeks back I drove through about 2 foot of water. A few hours later the car was like jerking a bit slightly, like it was chocking for a second. Took it a few days later for a long spin then on my screen it said pull over, car overheating. So I pulled over and checked the under the bonnet, it was all good. Any time my car was going up hill it would choke a bit and the thermostat was going all the way to the top, then to the bottom, then all the way to the top agaon etc. But the car wasn't over heating. Would the water have caused this? I drove it yesterday and it was good for about 50 minutes then it just slightly started choking again a bit and the temperature gauge went up and down a few times. But not half as bad as before but it was still there. Any ideas? Cheers

Check for trouble codes.  Check the coolant level.  Pressure test the cooling system.  Check for a sticking thermostat.  Check for a bad water pump.  Check serpentine belt for damage. Check radiator fan and ac aux fan.  Fan motor/s could be shot.  In short, you see a mechanic before the head gasket blows.

Check the antifreeze level in the radiator...not just the reservoir.
