"The scary virus has a 99.8% survival rate. That's not very deadly, dear. lol"  Where do conservatives get crap like this?

548,162 deaths with 30,213,759 cases is a case fatality rate of 1.8%.  Very high for an easily transmitted disease.  Even if the number of case is double that the rate is still .9% and very high for a highly contagious disease.

Update:

Pointless and stupid insult from debra.  Seems grade school calculations are too much for her so she just insults.

Update 2:

Good ol' debra. She insults me then accuses me of starting fights and makes statements about things she can't possibly know like how often I TD or how everyone here feels about me. Still befuddled by grade school math I guess so she has to resort to idiotic allegations.

Update 3:

BTW my "weird" avatar is an Anasazi petroglyph from the American Southwest. It is a place I have spent a lot of time hiking and visiting many of the archeological sites.  Sorry if you find an interest in history "weird".  Most people don't.

Update 4:

Broccoli for brains:  I am not disputing that. I want to know why so many conservatives lie about the fatality rate for Covid-19.  Your answer is nothing but a deflection.  BTW heart disease is not communicable and has many causes from diet and exercise to who you parents were and how much stress you experience.  Covid-19 is caused by one species of virus so once again a conservative relies on a false equivalency just to deflect.

Update 5:

Hey there desolate.  Good answer.

Update 6:

anonymous - explain the half million or so deaths above the expected level.  As for unreported cases that is a number in big dispute.  The positivity tests are currently running about 5% nationwide but with wide variations between states.  Who gets tested isn 't random but if i were 10 times higher then that is 300 million and the majority of the US population.  There shouldn't be wide variation between states and all states would be much higher.  Seems you aren't as bright as you think you are.

Update 7:

Seems you are really bad at reasoning since you took the 10x number without thinking what that would mean.  We would be at supposed herd immunity levels and the spread would be negligible if having had it confers long term immunity.

Update 8:

500,000 number are those deaths attributed to the person contracting Covid-19.  They may or may not have other conditions contributing but the medical judgement was contracting Covid is what caused their death and they would not have died when they did if they did not get the disease.  Another conservative misconception or, for some, falsehood.

Update 9:

Awarding favorite answer (not best answer) to the answer that shows why some conservatives fall for crap like a 99.8% survival rate.  Shows lack of critical thinking and ignorance what counts as covid death all the while accusing others of being dumb.  Gave me a good laugh.  Hence favorite answer.

Update 10:

Seems I can't pick anon's laughable answer - no button on it to do so.

So second favorite is debra for her complete inability to argue the point.

Also, that wasn't it's survival rate to start with. When this all started a year ago, about 6% of people were dying from it. That's 1 in 17 people. The fatality rate has dropped because over the past year, medical science has made enormous strides in treating it, the vaccine not being the only thing medical researchers and doctors have been working feverishly on.

    You're really bad at reasoning.

First of all, that 500,000 is, as has been admitted, the number of people who died while infected with covid, not those who died OF covid.  Health officials have stated repeatedly that anybody who dies while infected is counted as a "covid death" even if something else was the primary cause.

You're also neglecting, intentionally, the difference between the case fatality rate and the infection fatality rate.  Your denominator only includes the people who are confirmed to have been infected.  If you were to include the people who were infected and never sought medical attention, that number would be much much higher.  It's unknowable by nature, but the best estimates indicate that it is higher by a factor of between 5 and 10.

The average age of a "covid death" is exactly the same as the average age of deaths overall.  That would tell you something if you had more than two brain cells.

Stop embarrassing yourself. You think you're more intelligent than you are.

I'm a Conservative..and I'm of the opinion that Corona, due to sheer magnitude of global deaths, is one of the deadliest plagues of our time.

This does not mean I support government and private discrimination in an attempt to force citizens to take a largely untested vaccine into their bodies.

I know you took it, and hope you are well and remain so.

As for me..I want verified uncooked DATA, regarding both risk and effectiveness.

In God I trust..all others require proof.

While you are right, remember that the mortality rate for people under 20 (from covid-19) is about 0.2%. It's a lot higher for people over 75 (about 14.3%) especially if they have some underlying conditions that covid exacerbates.

They seem to think just because they didn't get it, or did get it and were asymptomatic, that there is nothing wrong. My uncle was one of those. Refused to wear a mask. Wouldn't distance from those that weren't family, etc. He was a Trump supporter. He died two weeks back. He got pretty sick and ended up going to the hospital. They tested him there. He was positive. Two weeks later, he was gone.
