Would "slavery" still be wrong if the "slave" agrees to it? ?
Let's say a poor man severely in debt is offered the ability to be debt free, his children and wife would never want for anything, and a 1 million dollar payment on the way out the door. All he has to do is consent to be a slave for x amount of years, with guaranteed rights he agrees to inside the contract he signs. If it's "consenting adults", is there still a problem?
I'm not asking whether it's illegal or not. I'm asking whether it's MORAL or not? If the man wants to be a slave, who are you to stop him? Is not his own body his and not yours to decide what he can do?
@? Those are good points we have decided the term slave means someone who was basically kidnapped, like many of the people from places like Africa or Europeans by the barbary pirates or something.
@ Anonymous Employees can't be forced to do anything... That would be slavery.
@Alucard Well put.
@ Christian sinner and Bill I'm not asking about whether it's legal or not. I'm asking about whether it's MORAL or not. Who are you to tell someone else what they can and cannot do with their own body? What if the poor man said YOU are the reason he might go to prison forever and have his family impoverished, because you think you know what's best for him when he's a grown man and fully capable of making up his own mind?

That isnt slavery. The whole point behind slavery and why its such an immoral practice is the person doesnt have a choice, rights or any compensation. They work till they die whether they like it or not, and are given the bate minimum to function. Indentured servitude is still somewhat questionable, but its definitely not slavery

Tell that to companies that force employees to sign contract that suppresses their rights.

We all know that slavery was nothing as you described. It's about kidnapping some people and forcing them to work in your farms and selling them and their entire families like cattles. They have no rights. You can beat them, you can starve them, you can kill them and nobody bats an eye. It's the most messed up sh*t humans ever came up with.

That’s called indentured servitude and there was a huge difference.
The problem w slavery was not that someone agrees to contractual terms, they were taken and told that under the law they had no rights and were properly.
In your scenario and for it to work one has to have rights to begin with and be recognized by the law to begin with. Slaves never were. Indentured servants were.

Obviously. This system doesn't look right, either.

It's illegal to own another person, but they could agree to do free labor.
