Why do republicans call cracking down on lies "censorship"?

Why did Republicans revoke the FCC Fairness Doctrine in 1987?

The main purpose for the doctrine was to ensure that viewers were exposed to a diversity of viewpoints requiring the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable, and balanced.

Since 1987 there have been studies showcasing proof that the demise of this FCC rule contributed to the rising level of party polarization in the United States specially for the Republican party with ABC Radio executive Ed McLaughlin signing Rush Limbaugh in 1988 and Fox News being founded by GOP member Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch strictly for a 'conservative audience' in 1996.

At the time members of Congress declared that the members of the FCC three appointed by Ronald Reagan and another appointed by Richard Nixon where trying to "flout the will of Congress" calling the decision "wrongheaded, misguided and illogical" while the FCC considered the Fairness Doctrine hurt the public interest and violated free speech rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

In June 1987, Congress attempted to preempt the FCC decision and codify the Fairness Doctrine, but the legislation was vetoed by President Ronald Reagan. Another attempt to revive the doctrine in 1991 was stopped when President George H.W. Bush threatened another veto.

In 2000 Republicans revoked the the personal attack rule and the "political editorial" rule which was still upheld. The "personal attack" rule applied whenever a person (or small group) was subject to a personal attack during a broadcast. Stations had to notify such persons (or groups) within a week of the attack, send them transcripts of what was said and offer the opportunity to respond on-the-air.

The "political editorial" rule applied when a station broadcast editorials endorsing or opposing candidates for public office, and stipulated that the unendorsed candidates be notified and allowed a reasonable opportunity to respond.

There you go, any questions.  Lies is all they have.  Fox News, Sean Hannity, Sidney Powell and Tucker Carlson all admitted that in court.

This is hilarious coming from the crew who pushed BLM's hoaxes for the last year which left to how many dead? 30? I am not a Republican but the Democrats are just as prone to fake news and lying. See everything they said about Jacob Blake and Kyle Rittenhouse. There is video proving the "right wing" version of the story is the God's honest truth and liberals know it.

I find the best way for me to combat lies is to not tell them. Liars often seek to censor. If my brother is speaking he is lying. He puts a lot of effort into censoring and discrediting my embrace of truth. One fun thing I have done to combat his lies is to add to them, complicate them, make them a challenge for him to manage.

Democrats vs Republicans. Let's face the truth of this last attempt to impeach. It was built on lies. You and I can both watch the video of Trump requesting a peaceful march. The lawyers proved evidence being shared was photoshoped.

I find if you are censoring your opposition's lies but not your own that you are actually the worst of the liars. It's just another level of manipulation.

We are on the brink of something horrible. The situation that nobody can believe anything they hear or see. Democrat lies are proven, Republican lies are proven. But still people choose to only see the other half of it. Now truth can not be offered or trusted. By all means crack down but that means to clean your house too.

You can always censor by calling whatever you disagree with as "lies".

Yes we do like exposing your lies. Remember the 60 minutes hit piece on Desantis?

Leftists censor the truth. Doesn't bother me. I like the idea of living in a parallel society. Conservatives watch Conservative news. Conservatives watch Rumble instead of Youtube. Conservatives use Conservative social media platforms. Conservatives shop at Conservative online retailers instead of Amazon such as the one Mike Lindell is building. These Leftist monopolies need competition anyways. I like where this is going.
