  • Any favourite fanfictions?

There are some horrible fanfictions out there, but there are some gems out there (honest!) Are there any fanfictions, from any fandom, that you love because they are so damned good? Well written, true to the source material, or just cute as hell.

Personally mine are: Chrysalis (Harry Potter) by starcrossed girl. It is truly amazing. Check it out if you are a Harry Potter fan at all. http://archiveofourown.org/works/304714

    and

Pull Up, Pick Up (Assassin's Creed modern AU) by tanyart. Since I work at McDonald's, and am a crazy-mad AC fangirl -- with a particular adoration for Malik and Altaïr's bromance in the first game -- I love this story with all my heart! ^_^ http://archiveofourown.org/works/173276

So... What's yours? Add links if you can.

  • What are your pet peeves on Yahoo! Answers?

I know these sites are less than perfect, so what things annoy you about this place? Mine are, amongst others:

Unfunny troll questions/answers (like this one, hurr hurr. I made the joke before anyone else did!)

Writing a thoughtful, insightful, helpful answer, and finding out it has been deleted before you post your answer! >_<

People who write in the exact way they talk, not for a laugh, for realz.

    Ppl hu tp lk dis.

People who post the same question, multiple times, over a period of weeks.

Legit questions in the completely wrong category.

    Questions inciting personal communication.

Soooo... what are yours? Be creative! :D

  • What phrases can I use in my story?

This might sound weird. :/ I have a broken leg and I am bored as hell as I can't get out as much as I want, so am writing stories for my own amusement.

I want some random phrases I can use in it. I need a challenge! Thanks. :D

  • Facebook question: Just curious?

If a friend tags you in a video, can all your friends see it, or is it just limited to mutual friends?

  • What are the best make-out songs?

I was just trawling YouTube this evening and was drawn to a lot of slow songs that could be considered 'make-out' music, y'know, songs to kiss (and more!) to. Don't ask why, I don't know myself... :/

So my question is: What are your favourite 'make-out' tracks? ;)

  • What's with this guy? More to the point, what's with me?

I have worked at a certain fast food restaurant for three years now, and have always liked this particular guy, let's call him Giovanni. At first he was a very good friend and helped me out a lot when I first started. Then, about a year ago, my feelings for him became stronger, and I started to develop a crush on him. Soon enough, a few people, including him, found out about it! The thing is, Giovanni plays up to it and when I flirt with him, he flirts right back. However, he is a natural flirt (although he denies it!) and acts very much the same around all the girls; it must be the Italian charm... For this reason, I'm not sure whether he really likes me back.

Another thing, I'm not quite sure how to handle this crush. I am very professional and can hold together my laughter and (usually!) my dizziness in front of the customers (in fact it helps me smile around customers, which has been difficult for me as I have been having a tough time of late), but when he says something, looks at me in a certain way, or catches me looking at him, I tend to blush, or start laughing. Like this afternoon; I was saying goodbye to him, and he said goodbye in what I can only describe as a flirty way, and I just giggled like an idioit. I walked out of the staffroom and out the building, inwardly cursing myself for being so stupid. Another thing that embarrasses me is that one colleague in particular, teases me relentlessly about it, and even addresses me as "Mrs [Giovanni's surname]" sometimes. This is funny to a point, but it does get irritating.

So, because of what Giovanni is like, I'm not sure whether to bite the bullet and ask him out, through fear of rejection. He's had tough times in relationships as well so I don't blame him if he just doesn't want to know. I don't want to embarrass myself, or him, and damage the friendship we have. How do I approach this? I just need some outsider's advice. Thanks! :D

  • Is it possible to delete subscribers from YouTube?

Someone I don't get on with has inexplicably subscribed to my YouTube channel (which has no videos; I only have it so I can save favourites, see certain videos, browse, subscribe to other channels etc.). Is there any way I can delete this person? Thanks. :)

  • (UK) Has anyone tried a Double Taste shake from McDonald's? If so, what did you think?

At McDonald's in the UK at the moment we have 'Double Taste' shakes that incorporate a syrup with a milkshake. We have double chocolate (chocolate syrup and chocolate shake) or tropical and vanilla (a mango flavoured sauce with vanilla shake. In the next few weeks we have Chocolate and Banana (choc syrup and banana shake) and Raspberry and Strawberry (raspberry syrup and strawberry shake, which I am looking forward to)

    Opinions, please! :)

  • My cousin and his girlfriend just split. She has two children, one of them is his. What rights does he have?

When he met his now-ex girlfriend, she already had a two-year-old daughter by someone else. They then went on to have another little girl, and now his ex-girlfriend has taken both of them.

Bearing in mind he brought up his girlfriend's daughter from the age of two, and the real father, as far as I can make out, is very distant, he is pretty much the older girl's father.

I was just curious, as I really care about my cousin; this whole split has taken him by surprise and he doesn't know what to do.

I'm in the UK, so I would prefer answers which cover UK law. Thanks.

  • What happened to my jam?

I made some raspberry jam the other day. When I had finished I jarred it up and it set, but rather than the jelly-like texture you would expect, it has gone like treacle. :/ I'm not sure where I have gone wrong. I added the juice of a lemon, and used jam sugar with added pectin, so I don't know if I've gone over the top with the pectin (as I found out afterwards that raspberries are high in pectin!), whether it was what I added to the jam when I took it off the heat (white chocolate chips and coffee liqueur), or whether I simply haven't cooked it enough.

I am planning to make some for Christmas presents so want to get it exactly right. Thanks for your input. :)

  • Why is this happening?

I have Yahoo! Mail (obviously) and I have the chat feature in a panel to the left. As I am logged on, it is showing me (lou_300) as an online contact for my chat. Why? This was not happening 2 hours ago.

Is this normal? I need to know to make sure I have not been hacked. I had a bit of an argument with an ex-friend today (who has not been in touch with me for over 18 months!) who is a bit handy with computers, so I am a bit worried.

All I need to know is: is it normal for your own ID to show up in Chat? Many thanks.

  • Anyone answer: Is this normal?

If a girl approaches a guy on a dating site just saying hi and being a bit flirty, is it usual for a guy to give out his phone number and offer himself up for sex within a week?

Or would a nice guy be a bit more subtle?

Just getting a general view, so anyone feel free to answer. Thanks. :)

  • Do they still make disclosure tablets for dental plaque?

I remember at primary school, a dentist visited our school to gove a talk on dental hygeine. Some packets of tablets (mainly red, but there might have been sme blue ones too) were given to us. They were small and looked like vitamin tablets. What you did was brush your teeth ,put one into your mouth and chew on it. Darker patches of dye highlighted where there was still plaque, so that you knew areas you needed to concentrate on.

I have a dental appointment next Monday, and although I have no symptoms of tooth problems as yet, I am ashamed to say I have not been looking after my teeth as well as I might. I would like to use one again to see how well I've really been brushing. Is there anywhere I can get these things from, if they are still available?

  • I suspect that a business is paying its employees less than the minimum wage. What action can I take?

I was shopping at a new improved branch of a certain company I used to work for, which I shan't name, for obvious reasons, and I got talking to an old colleague of mine. He claimed that employees his age (20) were getting paid below the minimum wage. As this company pays by length of shift, he told me that he was getting paid £17 for a four-hour shift, which works out at £4.25 an hour. As my mother works in payroll (for a different company) I am pretty sure that the minimum wage for his age group is way above this (at least £5.00 an hour).

Also, this same company has 6am start times, due to deliveries, and one employee, who is under 18, was given a shift starting then, even though I have been informed it is illegal for under 18s to work before 7am. Is there anything that the person in question could do?

P.S: Whilst I appreciate answers from any country, it would be helpful if people from the UK could answer, as I know that there are differences in laws everywhere. Thanx 4 input!

  • What did everybody think of Torchwood?

It was on BBC3 last night. Personally I found it a little underwhelming, and I was quite disappointed. I don't think I shall be watching it again.

But I want to know what all of you thought.

  • A slight pain in the backside?

A couple of weeks ago, I slipped on some wet metal stairs, and fell on my bottom. I found it quite difficult, but not impossible, to move for the next couple of days, and a first-aider friend of mine said I had a bruised coccyx. It still aches a bit now, but it is worse when I have been running (I had to run across a level crossing today, and that set off the pain a bit worse).

How long will it take for the pain to subside, and is there anythin I could/should do in the meantime? Thanks! :)

  • Training Rats?

My two housemates have been given a project for their Equine Sports Science class; they have to train an animal to do something. Since they both have pet rats they have decided on trying to train their rats to do something.

Can rats be trained to do specific things? If so, what sort of things could they have the rats do on command, or at least appear that it's on command?

  • What book would you recommend...?

for someone who is moderately dyslexic and has difficulty reading.

Any non-fiction self-help titles would be useful, or fiction along the lines of sci-fi and fantasy.

  • Mobile Phone Contact from England to Republic of Ireland?

My parents are going on a 'work related' (no, really) break to Ireland, and I may have to contact them while they are over there (to ask for a decent bottle of Irish whiskey). The thing is, I don't know about the possible charges to either of their phones, or my phone, or even if it is possible with the networks/price plans we have. Here are the particulars:

I am on T- Mobile Pay as you Go

My dad is on Virgin Pay as you Go

My dad's phone is a Nokia 3310 (yes old I know, it's my old one) and I think, but I'm not sure, that this is a dual-band phone.

My mum's phone is on Orange Pay as you Go. The phone itself is similar to my old Nokia, (I forget the number) and is a Tri-band.

Considering these, will it be possible to contact either my dad's or my mum's phone by text.

    Hoping for a knowlegeable answer!

  • Lost my job. What to do? How to react?

I started an admittedly, rather rubbish job at an amusement arcade a week ago, and this afternoon, I was called and said that they had to 'let me go' because of 'staff changes.' (What makes me laugh is that this company has already brought in new staff, including myself) I don't know of anything I've done wrong, and in fact, I was praised by my superior on Friday for my cleaning abilities in both the kitchen and the toilets. I don't mind leaving this job, but I obviously have to work the week out. I am absolutely furious with the woman who called me with this news, and I know tomorrow, she's going to try and be all nice to me. I want a good reference, but I don't feel like treating this sad excuse for a human being with any kind of respect.

Also, any ideas of why I have REALLY lost my job? I am 23 and just got out of university. My supervisor has seen me looking through the job pages of the local paper. Could this be a reason? Should I actually ask her?

    Thanks! :)
