  • Getting sound through TV from computer?

This may sound like a really silly question but: I have my computer (desktop) connected to my TV by VGA. However, when I want to play something from the computer (i.e. internet video or DVD), the sound doesn't come out of the TV.

I've tried connecting the computer to my ipod speakers but, whilst they have great sound quality for my ipod, they sound like an old-fashioned radio with loads of interference when connected to the computer.

I am now faced with the dilemma of having to buy another set of speakers for my computer although I already have speakers but I'm wondering if there is an alternative.

Is there any way of routing the sound that originates from the computer so that it comes out of the TV speakers?

My TV has USB and hdmi but my computer doesn't have hdmi.

    Thanks for your help.

  • How to bring a computer back to the configuration it had on a certain date?

So I think I've downloaded a virus on a laptop that I have and I've tried everything to get rid of it. Spybot detected two trojans when I first did a scan but now it no longer detects any infections and the computer is still freezing and blocking every time I try to do something. I have tried taken out any suspect or unnecessary programs and it's still not working.

I've been to an IT repair place and they've told me that the only thing they can do it completely reformat it which I would like to use as a last option if nothing else works as I have some valuable software on this computer which I wouldn't like to lose.

I remember someone once telling me that you could bring back a computer to the configuration that it had on a prior date and, since I know when I downloaded the file which I think was infected, I was wondering if this would solve the problem and if so, could someone tell me how to do this?

    Thanks alot

  • Rates for freelance interpreters?

Hi. I am looking to take on some work as a freelance interpreter and have been asked about my rates. I have absolutely no idea what to charge.

Has anyone worked as a freelance two-way interpreter and if so, could you give me an idea about rates? (Excluding expenses)

    Thanks

  • Just starting out in translation. Could you give me any advice on software/tools?

I'm currently trying out Wordfast. It's all a bit confusing but I suppose that practise makes perfect. If you are a translator, what software or tools do you use?

What do you think of them?

    Do you have any tips?

    Thanks

  • Can anyone help me with Wordfast?

I have just started with it and am learning as I go along. I can't find any tutorials on youtube which is my normal strategy for getting familiar with a new program so I'm playing with it a little bit.

Any advice or tips would be helpful. I have tried a couple of translations already and have it in table mode but don't know what the "Score" column means for example.

Also there is a field at the bottom called TM lookup but when I try to look for something it comes up with "no results found". Is this because I personally haven't translated this word yet or the system hasn't identified what I'm doing because of something I've forgotten to do?

Any tips on using Wordfast would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • What sort of starters would combine well with a fondue main course?

I am looking for any kind of non-cheesy starter ideas but I would mainly like veggie ones as there are veggies among us for the fondue party.

I'm having trouble thinking up starter ideas that would combine well with a fondue and not be too creamy or cheesy but are also tasty and imaginative.

    Thanks

  • Can anyone give me advice on waffle irons?

I am looking to make freshly made waffles in my café to add to the products I sell in the new year.

I will probably buy the dough ready made and ready frozen and then make the waffles with a waffle iron.

Does anyone have any advice to give me regarding waffle irons?

Do you know if you can use domestic ones for professional purposes and if not, what could be the risks involved?

Does one have to have a specific type of waffle iron if you're using frozen dough?

Do you know any good brands that offer value for money.

Any other info you have if you have experience of making waffles would be really useful.

    Thanks in advance

  • Telephone service providers (through computer)?

Hi. I used to use voipcheap.co.uk for making calls through my computer and I really liked the service. It was cheap (you get free land line calls to all countries in the EU) and it was easy to use.

However, I have uninstalled it in order to install it again with a new account as I've changed my email address and it won't work. It won't accept my new login information and then it crashes when I've had too many tries. I can't contact their customer services without a login (which seems a bit counter-productive) so I'm giving up.

I don't really like skype as price wise it doesn't compare. I find skype more useful for skype to skype calls than for calling telephone numbers.

Can anyone recommend a similar service to voip cheap or offer any help on setting it up again?

    THANKS!

  • Anyone have any knowledge on cheap flights to Africa?

I'm looking to travel in August and I know it's a bit last minute for good offers but I've been looking everywhere at flights to Ghana or Togo and I'm not finding much under 1000€ per person which I think is an incredible amount to pay for flights!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Cheese souflée recipe.-?

Has anyone ever made a successful cheese souflée? My mum used to make an amazing one but now she's gone vegan and pretends she doesn't remember how to make it.

I do remember though that it was a tricky thing to get right and that occasionally it would flop.

What's the best way to do it?

    Thanks

  • Want to make canneloni - spinach and ricotta. Any ideas?

I've never made spinach and ricotta canneloni before though I've had it loads of times.

Does anyone have an amazing recipe? Also, do you make it with the flat canneloni that you have to roll or do you prefer the canneloni tubes?

    Thanks!

  • Can you stop a credit card payment when you've paid for something on the internet?

OK. What's happened is that I have booked some flights on the internet. I only noticed something wrong when I'd already clicked confirm. I now can't cancel the flights through the company.

What protection does one have when one pays on a VISA card? Can I ask my bank to cancel the payment?

  • Portals where you can check for cheap flights?

OK, so there are loads of sites that you can visit which scour for the cheapest flight to the destination of your choice but what if you don't care about the destination?

Are there any sites you can visit to check for cheap flights from a certain airport irrespective of the destination?

  • How to turn 12 .jpg images into one?

I have twelve separate photographs that I would like to make into a design to go onto a flyer.

All I need is to be able to put the photographs together in rows and turn this into 1 .jpg but I can't seem to manage it.

I have tried to trial photoshop or illustrator to see if I could do it with either of these programs but there is not enough space on my computer for either.

I have gimp and I have paint but with paint it won't work because when I've pasted the image onto a file and it's ended up too big, by dragging the corner of the image down to adjust the size, it loses all the size parameters / proportions and squishes the image.

I've thought of doing the design on publisher but I'm not sure if I'd be able to turn the publisher file into a .jpg image afterwards.

    Can anyone help with this?

    Thanks

  • Good (hot) recipes with bulghur wheat?

I used to love bulghur as a child but my mum doesn't remember how she used to make it and she doesn't any more.

I also had some in a restaurant recently which was delicious and tasty but every time I've tried to make it, it comes out insipid.

Any nice recipes with bulghur or ideas on preparation in general to make it tasty are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Does anyone know of any good ballets or operas in London?

Going on between March and July? Is it too soon to find out that information and why does it seem that nothing is going on in April?

I would like to go to London to see a good classical production of a ballet or opera (not an "innovative take on...") and would like to book up in advance to get good flights and book time off....

    Thanks for your help.
