I am 38, very happily married with one son aged 20 months and another on the way. My main areas of interest are parenting, particularly early years and travel which is my greatest passion in life family aside. Partly thanks to my work I have visited 76 countries worldwide (though work aside I would be past 60) and I have a special connection with Vietnam as I met my wife there and have visited 6 times since 2003. I also like various sports and have are particular interest in the architecture of stadiums, especially football (thats soccer for US readers) grounds. I have lived most of my life in London but did have a spell in Uganda working and a shorter time in Rwanda undertaking research. I have previous experience of working in a Trade Union and though I have had success in my career recently I still fight for the rights of the most poorly paid and marginalised individuals. Oh yes, and I am half Scotish and half English, I always back the underdog so am happy to support Scotland!

  • Questions about the Phil & Teds Explorer 3 pushchair (ideally required in red).?

We are expecting a second child when our first will be 27 months. My wife has been researching push chairs for ages and set her heart on the Phil & Teds Explorer 3 (ideally in red).

We want to buy new. It is worth mentioning we do not have a car so rely mostly on public transport with the odd taxi or life.

Answers and opinions in relation to the following will be most welcome: -

    All respondents worldwide

    1. Have you experience of using this model, what do you see as the pros and cons. In particular, I read that the back seat can be dangerous as children can put their fingers in the wheels.

    For UK based only:

    2. Where is the best value to buy this chair and the attachment to make it take two children as well as the cacoon accessory. We originally saw it in Mothercare but it looks cheaper on the net.

    3. If recommending an Internet supplier can you vouch for their reputation - I have limited and mostly negative experience of Internet shopping.

Thanks to any and all who respond.

  • Best of Paris in 1.5 days?

I have a business meeting in Paris on 26th March and have booked to arrive lunchtime on 24th. I have been before for work but never got to see anything, this time I want to make amends.

I would like ideas on any/all of the following: -

The 3 must do activities (do not have to be mainstream)

The best places for lunch Saturday evening and lunch and dinner on Sunday (I am happy to pay up to 50 Euros if it is good for dinner - less for lunch though. Recommendations, ideally with a web address and/or phone to book a table (if it is needed).

Recommendations for a good Hotel. I am working close to the Madeleine metro stop. However, I will stay elsewhere in the city if accessable to there if the value for money is good.

Again contact details helpful here including any web page.

Any recommended city walking tours, particularly for Saturday evening. Is there one that tours some bars?

    Any good bar recommendations.

    Any rugby on?

    Any other ideas you have.

    Many thanks

  • Stopping breast feeding?

Our son is 20 months. He is still breast feeding as culturally it is normal for Vietnamese to feed their baby until two or more and this is consistant with the WHO guidelines (even though in the UK the trend is to stop a lot earlier).

However, breast feeding is exhausting and she is now 16 weeks pregnant with our second child. She really wants to stop but it is of course all the harder given the age of our son and the fact that he associates feeding with comfort. What efforts have parents who want to cease breastfeeding a child in the 15-24 month age range deployed?

Please do not comment on the issues of breastfeeding until 20 months, we are aware many people have a negative view of this but it is not the question.

    Thanks

  • Movement of baby during pregnancy?

My wife felt the movemement of our first son from very early in her pregnancy. I believe this was exceptional. Now we are expecting the second she worries because she seldom feels the baby. I say it is still early. When did you first feel your baby move and when did you feel him or her move regularly?

  • How long is the stage many toddlers go through where they cannot bare mummy to be out of sight?

Our son is 20 months and in the last few weeks he has got into a dreadful state whenever his mummy goes out the room. I know this is a normal stage of development but it is stressful for my wife wh is expecting our second and gets no peace from him and for me - as I also love to play and bond with my son but it is very hard to get him to settle to anything if mummy is in the house. Even when she is at work he will ask constantly for her all day long, I know this is to do with him having minimal concept of time. It would be good to know of other parents experiences of this phase, how long it went on for and if anyone had and novel ways of dealing with this difficult time. Thanks.
