  • Best Beer type for Welsh Rarebit recipe?

Got a recipe book t(from Williamsburg) that had a dish called Welsh rarebit.  It specified using 3/4 cup of beer but did not indicate at all what type = like ale, stout etc.  Uses Sharp Cheddar & egg mixture (& little tabasco & dry mustard) to be poured over toasted bread with a tomato slice.  Please advise. Person I am making it for, does not like IPAs.

  • Did you know the Mars candy/pet food co. is buying up vet practices?

Did you know the Mars candy/pet food co. is buying up vet practices?

See these links (FMI) or google this - and it is NOT just in the USA (buying several major chains of vet hospitals) if you live in the UK, Japan or Brazil - LOOKOUT they have gobbled up many - there, too!

    https://news.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=210&Id=92978...

    http://www.foodandpower.net/2018/06/21/mars-buys-a...

This may mean they will be forcing vets to meet "target sales goals" & PUSHING their foods & pet care products, whether they are in the BEST interests of YOUR PET - or not.

How do you feel about this development in pet care & veterinarians' offices?

  • Are you going to watch "America's Top Dog"?

It is a TV show I saw a write-up for on A&E channel & starts Wed. Jan 8th @ 9 PM.  I thought I'd give it a try, but I had thought it was going to be strictly schutzhund since the write -up said..." Four police K9 teams- including fan favorites from the hit series, Live PD - and one civilian team, will face off for the title of America's Top Dog" in 3 rounds of high velocity competition.  The teams will be tested on: speed, agility, scenting ability and teamwork by completing a series of expert tasks on one of the biggest obstacle courses ever assembled.  (However, it looks to be more like tv show "Ninja Warrior" type stuff.)

Here's the link with a 45 sec video preview.

  • Did you know AKC does do kennel inspections?

Here is detailed information on what some people (like ninefinger) THINK only the government or Dept of agriculture does; but is indeed done by AKC and what to expect (as a breeder) if they decide to inspect YOU:

    https://www.akc.org/inspections-and-compliance/

And if you have frequently used sires (who are bred 3 times in a calendar year, or who have produced 7 or more TOTAL litters) you must have a DNA kit (the AKC will provide) already on file before any more litters from that stud will be registered.on file with the AKC.

Dog may be "sampled" for proving correct DNA & to assure correct record keeping purposes "DURING KENNEL INSPECTIONS" but this will not give the owner a DNA profile they can use.

  • Please explain the insane demands for the Popeye's chicken sandwich?

The car lines around the stores, look like lines at Walt Disney world. People have gotten violent into fights or worse, over the food (or lack thereof) when they run out.

(I have NEVER eaten at Popeyes) and know nothing about their food. Yes, I do eat meat & do like fried chicken, but I would never WAIT this long in a traffic jam, for food in a line. What am I missing about their chicken sandwiches?

  • Why do people steal grave stones in a rural area?

My family found an old family cemetery in a rural part of NC with a fence still around it, but many of the known stones had mysteriously disappeared. We do not know what they would have been used for or how to gently ask in the local paper or online for return, no questions asked.

Can anyone suggest used for the stones dating back to 1700s & only missing on last 20-50 years? And can you suggest any way to get any to return?

  • How much do you know about dog flu?

My vet advises that you may want to consider getting the Canine influenza vaccinations, if you: use dog parks, attend dog shows or go to dog training classes. Two dogs have DIED from canine influenza in NC; necropsies were done at the NCSU vet school. In each place it has cropped up (since 2015) the canine influenza spreads RAPIDLY in a PANDEMIC fashion.

The AKC sent this to my Dog Club:

This notice is being sent out to provide up-to-date and accurate information about the Canine Influenza Virus to help prevent the spread of the virus to healthy (unexposed) dogs. The information provided is not intended to alarm dog owners and handlers.

There are recently confirmed cases of the Canine Influenza Virus (H3N2 strain) that was first brought to and identified in Chicago, Illinois in the spring of 2015. The most recent outbreaks concern the following states: Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Canine Influenza Virus is an extremely contagious airborne disease that is easily spread among dogs, and in rare instances, can be contagious to cats. If you believe one of your dogs may have contracted the Canine Influenza Virus, immediately isolate it from other animals and contact your veterinarian.

  • Mirror silvering or Chrome paint for my vase? I bought an inexpensive five inch square glass teleflora vase.?

It looked like CHROME on the outside, but was reflective on the inside, as though it was a mirror. However, it was missing some color at each bottom corner, so you could see thru it & see clear glass.(NO, Aluminum foil doesn't look right in the corners.) I'd like to apply a Chrome color paint or mirror silvering (if I knew where to find it) to make this look right. Yes, this was made in China, but despite this flaw is lovely otherwise and I would like to recycle it for a planter, but the dirt will show, if I cannot make it solid chrome color on the outside.

  • Are you aware of the dog food recall?

Diamond dog food has expanded its recall (due to salmonella) which humans have contracted from handling the food. It now includes a number of its brands, not just Diamond Puppy (as was previously reported). Taste of the Wild (a grain-free Diamond brand) & Canidae (made there) are also included. See this link FMI:

    http://www.annarbor.com/pets/pet-dog-food-recall-d...

Contact information (phone number) for questions, is also on the above link.

This is NOT the first Diamond dog food recall. Will this change your buying habits?
