Have you had any luck with Stress Zyme or Cycle?

Question

I use Stress Zyme to get tanks cycled more quickly and to help shorten "mini-cycles" after partial water changes. I honestly believe they work, as my ammonia and nitrite levels go down fast and my nitrate levels go up pretty fast too and stabilize around 10 ppm. I go generally two weeks before doing a 20% water change. Before using these kinds of things, there was a possibility of fish loss after a cleaning, but it hasn't happened now in about a year.

Stress Zyme, Cycle or Bio-Spira adds a live bacteria to your tank that helps speed up the nitrogen cycle.  Yes, it can be a definite help when one is doing their first cycle, but when you have completed your first cycle and are doing proper water changes and tank maintenance, these products should be unnecessary unless you've interrupted your cycle for whatever reason.  But, adding one or the other of these products certainly can't hurt the tank and if you don't mind paying for the product for each water change, then it can't hurt.  And, if you have excellent water quality, then why mess with a good thing?!  I'm really glad to see that you understand proper water changes, tank maintenance and testing!  Keep up the good work!

I think your tank has stabilized and would do this any way. If your tank shows any ammonia or nitrite at two weeks after a change you are not getting the tank clean enough by siphoning. Or perhaps you are in some way damaging the bacteria when doing the change.Are your filter cleaning practices sound? Always rinse filter materials in water drawn from the aquarium. Fish loss should not be a problem in an established tank,something is amiss. Stresszyme is a fish slime enhancer an shouldn't effect ammonia or nitrite at all.-----PeeTee

I have three fish tanks now (55 gal., 35gal, and a 1gal.)  and I use Stress Zyme in all of them.  I believe it dose work, I also use it when adding new fish to a tank to help the fish with the transfer and I have never had a problem with the product

It's supposed ot introduce all kinds of beneficial and nitrafying bacteria into the tank, which is what your cycling process is attempting to grow and establish. It can help the cycling process along, but won't jump over it. I can;t stand how some bottles of the same product claim to "skip the cycling process." It's not necessary for the cycling procedure, but it helps it along. Best of Luck!

We've used both products and my husband swears by Cycle.  It's also really good to use when you have to clean out your filter and change the medium as well.  The stree zyme has also been really good for my axolotls.. helps with their slime coat.

Maybe you are just better now at keeping tanks than you were a year ago. Cycle is just dead bacteria.
