How much room do you need to park a car?

The technical answer is simple.

If parking alongside another car , just enough room for you and passengers to exit the car.

If parking bumper to bumper 1.5 times the length of the car being parked.

Always reverse the car into a bumper to bumper situation it is easier as you have more control.

I don't know but it does make you wonder how some drivers ever managed to pass a driving test in the first place. I have just been at the brunt end of a woman driver who smashed into the side of my car after passing 5 exits on a motorway link roundabout in the left hand lane all the way around it !!!!!!!! it was scary as hell I can tell you.

It is just beyond belief, I am not saying for a minute that all women are bad drivers I am not going down that road as I think you get women, men, old people, teenagers all walks of life that have a bad driver mixed in there somewhere. It has now been 6 weeks since the accident my car is still not back from repairers and I am still not a hundred percent feeling ok with myself, all for a moments stupidity on someone else's part .

I hope you actually got all her details, but it is most definitely a massive misjudgment on her part 2 bays is loads of room for anyone to park in no matter how bad a driver they are.

It was probably her husbands car, and as usual, bang goes HIS no claims discount!! As most female drivers have the spatial awareness of a WHELK I am surprised you only suffered 'minor' damage, when there would be at least 14 feet of space either side of you (about length of a peugeot 406) but its our fault, convincing them that 9 inches is this long 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999 !

Depends on how good you are at driving and what you are driving, however whenever I park (cos I am a girl and am not scared to admit it!) I find the biggest space possible and as far away from everyone else as possible. I would rather walk further than have someone else who doesn't care ding my car. I can reverse in better when the space is on the left, but when the space is on the right I have to drive in..... strange!

And by the way, how can you misjudge your distance with that much room?

Depends on the visibility in the car that you are driving. Personally I need enough room to park a bus

I have a small car. I think I would estimate about 12 inches each side probably little bit more than that.

Being a woman I have no spacial awareness therefore I need 3 parking spaces and if any one blocks me in, oh dear I am sorry about the paintwork.

Anyone found giulty of doing this should have to be tested on parking if they fail they should not get their licence back until they do.
