first check for any wiring problems. when the problem occurs just switch off an on the computer atleast 3 times.

If you mean the power light flicks on and off, its quite normal for some monitors its called "Standby" If it does it while your actively using your computer ( and i dont mean left for 20 minutes then come back ) then its down to a poor connection.

    **EDIT**

I have just read on some forums, of 3 people having the same problem with a HP computer, and finding that it was an update of the BIOS that was required. I'm sourcing a link for you to have a read

That means a new one. the monitor is coming to an end of it's life cycle

Sounds to me like your monitor has a bad connection or may be going bad.

Your monitor IS the computer screen, so what do you mean?

First make sure all the cables are on tightly. If one is loose it will cause that problem. Second make sure all your video drivers are updated, it may help.
