Why do some atheists feel that they must tell people God/Jesus doesn't exist...?

...regardless of how relevant or not to the question it is?

Seriously can you people not treat a question as hypothetical?

Firstly I KNOW there are Christians who treat the existence of god as a certainty but it can be taken as read that that's their belief.

I want to know why some atheists seem to think that it's worthwhile making a post (for example) saying nothing more than 'Jesus wasn't real' in answer to a question about his skin tone.

a) How does that answer the question?

b) Why would you do that? What's the point?

There seem to be three possibilities:

1) They are being deliberately annoying.

2) They think that stating it enough times makes it true (I don't care if it is or not repeating it will never make it more true)

3) They seriously believe that it is true and they must convert all non-believers to their beliefs to save them from lies and evil. (note the parallels with Christianity)

4) They're looking for an easy two points

5) They think it makes them look clever

So why do these 'answers' keep showing up? I don't care about whether they are right or wrong I want to know their reasons for the submission.

Update:

Canadian Atheist: 2+3 then

David M: "I don't know. I've not heard of him."

It's less the point of saying that God doesn't exist it's the fact that they say nothing else (or maybe something about Jesus being green or something equally stupid) and nothing helpful to anyone.

Bowen: Most Theists will say something else which is useful rather than the post being simply "God doesn't exist" or similar. If they don't there's also a good chance some atheist will attack them for it.

Update 2:

It would be better if these people actually said something helpful.

If you think it's a valid answer to say God/Jesus doesn't exist you need to at least explain how that is relevant to the question.

It seems in general that people tend not to state that they have beliefs, and I think it can probably be assumed that when someone asks a question about God/Jesus they are asking about whatever it is if they are real beings.

They are just the equivalent of religious people who go around telling people "You MUST believe or you WILL go to hell." I think that it's a mental problem. People who feel that they must force their views on people (atheist/religious) because "They themselves" can not understand why or how someone else could disagree with them.

Atheists probably feel the need to express their beliefs for the same reason theists do, though I doubt that anyone has changed their beliefs based on something they read in R&S.

As for answering questions by saying "Jesus doesn't exist" when a question about him is asked, well, that is an answer, and a valid one. If I were to ask you what your pet dragon's name is, you would probably say something like, "I don't have a pet dragon, and dragons don't exist". Same thing.

Not everyone is going to lay out all of the reasons to believe that Jesus most likely never existed as a historical figure and that his story was probably intended to be taken as an allegory rather than literal truth by the gospel writers every time he's mentioned.

And finally, before you accuse atheists of being rude (which sometimes is true) why not criticize those theists who feel the need to tell me that me and everyone like me will burn in hell forever if we don't immediately convert to their beliefs, there are those who also consider that sort of thing to be a bit impolite.

there is not any genuine info which proves that God would not exist. What i could propose doing is finding into the Philosophies on the life of God. i comprehend of one website i've got used for a whilst, it supplies the two arguments for and against the life of God. i think of it truly is an marvelous beginning factor besides the undeniable fact that i've got not examine via all of it, and as a believer for evident motives i will not be able to declare i could consider the counsel which you would be utilizing. For the main section i think of philosophies on God are pointless, they coach not something the two way in spite of the undeniable fact that it is the superb i will arise with. the matters it discusses which go against the belief of a God are: The Presumption of Atheism the difficulty of Evil problems with Omnipotence problems with Omniscience Immortality Heaven and Hell Petitionary Prayer The Argument from Autonomy The Psychogenesis of religion faith and Memetics

I can't think of any real reason to give that answer to the sort of questions you mention, except to get an easy two points. I wouldn't give that answer unless the question was," Do you think so and so exists?" And then I would ellaberate a bit, or in my case probably too much:) :)

Would it be any less irritating if some of them said, "I haven't found the existence of God to be true." ? Imagine if that was all you ever heard. Wouldn't that be nice?

How can they say that He doesn't exist when they are just mortal and can't see what is beyond this life? How can I say that He exists? Well, He showed me that He did, that's how.

It is nice that we can still express our views nevertheless and I do because I feel that Jesus is worth knowing and that it is vital for one to believe in Him.

It could be any of the above, or it could be the same as whatever reason makes a lot of Christians run around insisting that Jesus is real/believing in Jesus is the only way to be saved/that the person who posted a particular question is going to Hell if they don't believe in Jesus, even in posts where the questioner has explicitly stated that he or she doesn't believe in Christianity or in posts where such answers are irrelevant to the question regardless of the questioner's beliefs.

probably becasue the question itself implies the conclusion that god exists or some other religious statement to be true by the very act of asking it.

perhaps if they phrased the question "what did the mythological god say in the bible" or respond "in the christian relgion or the christian bible what did god say to moses when moses scored a triple double against moses mallone at the garden", etc.

instead of saying "what did god say in the bible about x" or what did god say to moses when moses scored a triple double against moses mallone at the garden".

they fail to qualify thier statement as belief only- this is a general offensive attitude they have and it is aggrivated by the fact that they make attempts (numerous) to legislate thier beliefs into law.

the moment they put the truth of thier beliefs at issue- thats when they can be challenged.

if christians asked questions like "in the x belief system then what did god say about y" then they would not be putting thier beliefs at issue and merely asking what a specific book or belief system holds- there is no mention of whether it is true or not and the asker didn't put "truth" at issue.

As a non Atheist, I don't think they do. I have never ever been approached by an Atheist and been told "there is no god", and here is a track outlining our beliefs. I have however been accosted hundreds of times by my fellow Christians who keep trying to convert me to a faith to which I already belong. Sorry, just telling the truth.

For the same reason that religious people make similar posts- insecurity with their beliefs contributes to anger and intolerance toward others, and they think they can find relief or vengeance by making posts like that. Frustration at the apparent irrationality of the other side probably plays a role, too.

I get what your saying, but it's really no different then what christians do....My husband is a atheist and we have had many conversations on the subject. Christians also like to try to change you to their mode of thinking. It doesn't matter what you believe in, people are going to defend their beliefs if they feel strongly about them....I am a spiritualist myself and I will also defend my beliefs.
