Make acid free Momigami paper for scrapbooking?

I am on a course making momigami paper for embroidery. I would love to use this paper for scrapbooking but the method we are using is to put cooking oil on our hands then crumple the sheets. Oil contains fatty acids. Does anyone know of any other method?

I have found alternatives on the net such as tapioca starch, arrowroot or konnyaku (devil's tongue root) but I suspect these may acidic too.

Update:

Thanks but I don't trust ph pens. I have tried one on paper I know is not acid free and it has not registered it.

I don't know anything about the process you are talking about, sorry to say. Have you tested the paper you are making with a ph pen? It will let you know if the acidity level of the paper is too high for scrapbooking. These pens are available in most scrapbooking/craft stores. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

This truly depends upon what you intend to do with your scrapbook. If you are making something along the lines of a family tree, or something that you will share with future generations, then you will need to use acid free paper. If it's just something you're doing for fun, then it doesn't matter at all. Some people do beautiful scrapbooks that truly qualify as works of art, and they should be using acid-free paper so their lovely creations will last.
