What to do if accused of deliberately cashing a stopped cheque?

I cashed a cheque in good faith a week or so ago, which was stopped. Now the company that cashed it are harassing me and accusing me of knowingly cashing a fraudulant cheque. I have tried to explain that there was a genuine error and that the matter can be cleared in just over 2 weeks but they insist that if i don't honor this amount in 2 seconds with money I don't have they will start a criminal investigation. Whilst I've done no wrong the process is annoying and will unfairly reflect bad on my credit score. How do I avoid this?

They're in the right. Do you think you're the first one to ever cash a bad check there? I'm assuming you cashed a check for a friend of yours. Well, that friend scammed you. People like your friend are the lowest of the low, walking/talking pieces of shït. People like that, if they were to get hit by a bus and die, the world would become a better place. It's fine to hang out with friends like that but don't dare trust them or you'll get scammed... again and again and again. When the check cashing place agreed to cash that check, they were agreeing to cash a check for you, not loan you money. You need to pay them back yesterday! Go to your friend who gave you the check and demand that money. If he won't give you any, beat him up and take stuff of his that you can sell to get the money.
